Solomon C. Day was the eldest child of Henry Day and Margery (Cate) Day. He married Elizabeth "Betsy" Gillespie in Sumner County, Tennessee. They had ten children before her death on 11 Sep 1840 when their youngest child, William Thomas Day, was only a year old.
Solomon C. Day married Elizabeth Gillespie on January 1, 1823. Five years later, his younger sister, Sarah Day married George Gillespie on March 22, 1828. George Gillespie was Elizabeth Gillespie Day's younger brother. This made the two couples both husband and wife, and brothers- and sisters-in-law to each other.
Additionally. Solomon C. and Elizabeth (Gillespie) Day had a son they named John Gillespie Day. In 1852, he traveled to Oregon with another one of his mother's younger brothers, Rev. Jacob Gillespie. Shortly after they arrived in Lane County, Oregon, John Gillespie Day married his first cousin, Agnes Lenora Gillespie, whose father was Rev. Jacob Gillespie.
