Thomas Allen Jamison [Male] b. 25 APR 1811 Ohio, KY, in part according his grandson Dr. Andrew J. Jamison - d. 6 MAR 1873 Rutherford Co., TN
Change: 17 JAN 2013

Jamison Cemetery 12912432, Readyville, Rutherford Co., TN

Home designated on 1878 District 19 Map as A. Jimmerson.

On Thomas Allen Jamison's grave stone is the following inscription:

Remember friend as you pass by
As you are now so once was I
As I am now you soon shall be
Prepare for death and follow me

The record is not clear where Allen was born. Census records disagree between Ohio and Kentucky. Allen is shown in the 1840 census in Warren Co. TN already married with children at age 3 0 on page 326. Records indicate that his name was Thomas Allen Jamison which is consistent with the family using the middle name. This can be assumed to be true since Allen Jamison is his name according to his tomb stone and other recordsand since he was in Rutherford Co., in 1850, and is recorded as ThomasJamison and no Allen Jamison anywhere (Warren or Rutherford) then the1850 census index of Thomas provides his first name. In addition, theThomas Allen was used latter in the family of William Robert Jamison. Dr. Andrews Jackson Jamison, his grandson recorded his birth place as Kentucy. (some records indicate incorrectly that his name was Jemmison, etc. These were error introducted during Census where the taker had no clue how to spell the name.)

Carolines brother, Samuel Fulks, Jr., was also recorded in Warren Co., TN in the 1840 Census. Apparently, both families went to the Warren Co. for a few years and then went to Rutherford Co., TN to live out their lives. (it should be noted that Warren Co., was later divided and part of it became Cannon Co.)

The 1850 Census of Rutherford Co., McCrackin District, records Allen as Allen Jemmison 34 M Ohio. The 1860 census states born in Tennessee and the 1870 indicates Ohio. Caroline is liste d in household of Calvin inthe census taken on June 9, 1880 at age 63. No record or traditi on hasbeen found prior to 1840 of Allen Jamison. There is a possibility that Allen may be related to William Jameson who married Nancy Emeline Bellin Cannon Co., June 18, 1840. Willia m is said to appear to be born in Kentucky c.1823. Some believe that William and Nancy were Thomas Allen's were parents but Nancy' s (if this is the right Nancy) mentionsThomas H. an d wife Catherine which makes this unlikely. Apparently thename is Jamison in Rutherford and J ameson in Cannon Co. This researcherbelieves they we re kin folks.

This researcher assumes that Caroline Fulks Jamison, wife of Thomas AllenJamison is buried he re also, but there is no grave marker.
In addition, Abraham Tennison, Jr., Caroline's maternal grandfather isprobably the oldest gra ve in the cemetery but the grave has no marker.

Thomas Allen did not show up until 1840 in Warren Co., TN and would have been about 13 years old at some unknow place at this time so it doesn'tlook like this could have been his brother , his father, etc.

It should be known that the Warren Co. line was just east of Rutherford during the early 1800's. Part of Warren was then used to create Cannon Co.

No known connection to the Thomas Allen Jamison's of Rutherford County but of general historic al interest:

The Genealogical account state his name was Thomas Jamison while Goodspeed states his name was Jameson.

The Tennessee Genealogical Magazine,"Ansearchin" News, Vol 43, No. 4, Winter 199 6 issue:

Colonel Joseph H. Talbot and Almedia Sanders were married, in Jackson, March 15, 1827;
she being a daughter of Francis Sanders, Esq. (NATIONAL BANNER AND NASHVILLI WNIG, March 17, 1827)

An article appeared in THE JACKSON SUN, Feb. 18, 1826:

HORRID MURDER. Died at his residence in this county, on Thursday morning the 16th inst., MR.. FRANCIS SANDERS, .aged about 50 years, of wounds received by the hands of an assassin on Thursday evening preceding. The circumstances are concisely theses: On Wednesday evening the 6th inst. whilst engaged in looking over his farm, he was shot at by some villian in coward. Fortunately, at this time, he received no injury. Who it could be or what extraordinary motive the assassin could be actuated by, it was impossible to conjecture. On the evening following, about dusk, as he was returning to his house from a piece of new ground, where he had been superintending . . . he suddenly received a blow, without knowing at the time from whence it had come, on his head, which instantly brought him senseless to the ground. A repetition of blows appears to have succeeded the one which brought him down; in this situation he was found shortly after and brought to his house where he languished until last Thursday morning about 5 o'clock, when he died having previously recovered his senses. The villian who committed the atrocious act and whose name is Thomas Jamison, has confessed his crime and is now in close confinement in Jackson jail, together with a negro fellow belonging to Mr. Sanders, who has also made a full confession. The wretches can scarcely assign a motive for their conduct. Jamison is a young man about 21 or 22 years of age and resided with his father on the land of Mr. Sanders. The deceased emigrated to this section of country from Davidson county, Stone River, where he had resided many years commanding the esteem of all who knew him.
If such a man at home almost in the bosom of his family could not be safe from outrage, how precarious is all human security!
A jury of inquest has been held over his body and find his death produced by an act of willful murder, agreeably to the foregoing statement of facts. On Friday evening his remains were interred with great solemnity by the Free Masons of Jackson Lodge.

Another account was found in Goodspeed History of Madison Co., TN

Goodspeed History of Madison Co., TN
The first murder trial began in October, 1826, and ended January 31, 1827, in conviction. The case was the State against Thomas Jameson, for the murder of Francis Sanders. Jameson was an objectionable suitor for the hand of Sanders’ daughter. The murder was committed for the purpose of securing the wished for prize. The prisoner was remanded to jail to remain till May 4, 1827, between 10 A. M. and 2 P. M., when he should be taken to a convenient place near Jackson, and there hung by the neck until dead. The execution was duly carried out about two miles from Jackson. A negro was also executed as an accomplice.

Denmark lies about twelve miles southwest of Jackson and contains about 250 inhabitants. It is in the midst of a rich farming community, and was one of the first places settled in the county. The land on which Denmark stands was opened by Thomas Sanders in 1822.
In the vicinity of Denmark, Thomas and Richard Sanders settled in 1822.

The age and time would have put his birth at about 1804-1805.
