Boyd Cemetery on Pitts Lane north of Murfreesboro, TN

Susan Ann Pitts Boyd was known as "Ann" by the family as indicated byAunt Nell's letter. The re is a picture of John & Ann Boyd. For those whohave found a Susan N. Pitts in the record s of Rutherfor d Co., thetranslation from script to type is incorrect. It should have been no tedas Susan A. Boyd. Following is the obituary which was in the local paperin March of 1925:

Mrs. S. A. Boyd Dies At Home of Daughter

Mrs. S. A. Boyd, age 74 years, died Thursday March 6 at the home ofher daughter, Mrs. J . W. Zumbro on East Vine Street from infirmaries ofage. Funeral services were held from the h ome as above Saturday morningat 10 o'clock conducted by Rev. W. F. Jaggers after which her re mainswere buried at the family graveyard near Pittstown.
Mrs. Boyd was a Miss Pitts prior to here marriage and was born andlived in the 21st dist rict all of her life up to about two years untilwhen she came here to spend here remaining da ys with Mrs. Zumbro.
She was a life long member of the Republican Grove Baptist churchand had live a consiste nt Christian life. She is survived by numerousnear relatives, the most of whom are natives a nd residents of the county.
Mrs. Boyd had fifteen children, all of who survived her. Two orthree of the boys and tw o of the girls are in other states and cities butthe others are all in this county. She had s even boys an d eightdaughters, all of whom were present at the funeral services.
This family is remarkable in the fact that these fifteen childrenare adults and a wonder ful robust set. They range in weight from 180pounds to 290 pounds. The three largest weigh re spectively 2 90, 250 and245 pounds. The aggregate weight of the family is about 3,500.
Her ancestors were among the earliest settlers in Tennessee and shewas descended on bot h sides from stock to be proud of.

Bertha Lena Clark
Bertha Lena Clark was born Nov. 13, 1909 on the Ballenger Rd. propertythat her father,
James Thomas Clark, was farming. He rented the farm from George Manningand his wife,
Mary Ligon Manning, Jim's aunt. Bertha's mother was Susan Evelyn FisherClark. Her father
died in June of 1913 and her mother later remarried Harrison Lee Douglas,a Civil War veteran.
Bertha was raised on Hogan's Creek Rd. This picture was taken in front ofmy grandmother's
home on Hogan's Creek sometime between 1924 and 1925. Bertha married LodaElvis Hunt
(b.Oct. 5, 1905, d. April 2, 1991) on July 4, 1926. Loda's parents wereDaniel Abner Hunt and
Amanda Eula Mae Haines Hunt of Hogan's Creek. Bertha and Loda were laterdivorced and Bertha
later remarried an Elvin Smith. She moved to Detroit, Mich. and duringthe 2nd World War she
went to work for Chrysler making Jeeps. She retired from Chrysler back inthe mid to late 1970 's
and lived in Mo. for many years. She moved back to Carthage where shedied May 20, 1995. She i s
buried in Smith County Memorial Gardens, in Carthage. She had three sonsby her first husban d and
they are living in Smith Co.
Some of Susan Clark Douglas's grandchildren were born in this house. Hersecond husband, Harri son
Lee Douglas passed away here in 1927 as did her mother, Sarah JaneViolett Fisher, wife of Eno ch
Fisher, in July of 1936.
