When he was 14 yrs.old, he helped his father, William Kelly, build theMarblehead Lighthouse . He is buried in the private Cemetery on theprairie that was once part of his farm. On Chr istmas 1862 he waspresented with a chair, handmade by Confederate Prisoners on JohnsonIsland , OH. It was made of carved native woods and bottom laced withstrips of leather from the top s of worn-out officers boots. It wasdonated to the Texas Confederate Museum in 1979 by R. L . 2 children died as babies, Alice 10/14/1840-11/5/1840 and Mary3/25/1855-6/13/1856 Elizabet h was the first white child to be born inthe settlrment of Newberg, Ohio, now part of Clevela nd. Her parents,Truman and Phoebe(Wolcott) Pettibone, came to Ottawa Co.in the spring of1813 . They were driven out of Ottawa Co.by the Indians in the fall of1813, but returned in 1815 . She is buried in the family Cemetery on theprairie with her husband, John Reid Alexander Br yson Kelly.
