George Andrews [Male] b. 6 MAY 1755 Merklenburg Co., VA
Change: 17 JAN 2013

The slaves Nell and Tom are listed with Ephraim on the tax list ofMecklenburg Co.
Mecklenburg Co. Deed Book 4, page 335 is where Avis Andrews, widow ofWilliam Andrews, sold Ne ll and Tom to her son, Ephraim. This proves theparents of Ephraim.

The slave, Tom, is mentioned again in the will of Ephraim Andrews. (Willwritten 1807; recorde d 1809, Williamson Co. , TN) In the will, Ephraimstated, "My will and desire is that the pric e with the hire of one Negrofellow named Tom that is now in the possession of George Andrew s andWilliam Drumwright, shall be taken out of their part of the estate, andthe two hundred d ollars that George Andrews paid the said Drumwright forTom is to be subtracted out of the sai d Drumwright's part of said Negro."

1798 seems to be the last year on the tax list that we see EphraimAndrews, Sr. This is also a bout the time he sold his land, so we assumethis is when he went to TN. Please note that Geor ge Andrews, his son, andWilliam Drumwrigh t did not go to TN., as some research indicates. Yo usee him, and William Drumwright, in VA, in 1805, where the microfilm thatI ordered stops.

George Andrews, son of Ephraim Andrews, married MARY (MOLLY ) WALKER,sometime before 1778. (P roven by a Mecklenburg Co ., Va. Deed Book 5,page 314, where Silvanus Walker deeds a slave, H all, to "George Andrews, and my daughter, Mol y Andrews." Hall can be found in the list of sla vesowned by George.

George Andrews sold his land in Mecklenburg, and moved to Lunenburg Co,where he left a will ( Will Book 8, page 181, dated 1812, not too longafter the 1808 death of his father; George's w ill was recorded 1821). Init, he mentions the slave Tom, and also Silvy. Silvy had been name d inprevious tax lists; according to Ephraim's will George bought To m fromDrumwright, and h e appears again here in the will.
George also refers to his father's estate in TN in his will : "and ifthere is not money enoug h got from the tobacco and corn my Executorsshould enough out of my legacy I have coming fro m my father's estate whodeceased in Tennessee and the legacy is in the State of Tennessee... " and"As I have given my four daughters, Ann H. Arnold, Martha W . Burnett,Elizabeth Gee, an d Susanna Hightower each thirteen dollars, the wholeamounting to fifty-two dollars, my desir e is that my Executors take theabove amount for them out of the legacy left me by my father w hich legacyin the State of Tennessee." And "I leave my legacy which is coming to mefrom my f ather's estate which is now in Tennessee State that I have notbefore directed otherwise...... ."

George referred to his father's estate three times in his will. Althoughit was a long time be tween the time of Ephraim's death, and 1821, someadditional helpful information has been gath ered by Ed Driskill. From hisnotes taken of the actual documents, we find that because of law suits, the final disposition of the TN. estate was not settled until 1826.

Also, one additional note about George Andrews's will: He named his wife,Mary. (I do not kno w the George Andrews, who d. 1841, who was married toRuth Vaughn, Hawkins, TN, but George an d Ruth are not son/dau-in-law tothe above Ephraim. George and Ruth reportedly married in Walk erton, St.Joseph, IN about 1771. St. Joseph Co. is located at the very tip top ofIndiana, nex t to Michigan, and did not become a county until 1830. If youhave George with Ruth in your da tabase as the son of Ephraim, it needs tobe corrected, to avoid the further spread of incorre ct information).
George Andrews (who m. Mary (Molly) Andrews) is also not the son ofWilliam and Avis Andrews , as you will see in some research.
