John is said to have killed himself in Huntsville, AL in Feb. 1843 whileon a business trip.In formation provided by John Lee Fults in GenForum

John Daniel FULKS committed suicide in Huntsville, Alabama. The followingobituary was publish ed in the Huntsville Hearld, February 1843:"Suicide...John D. Foulkes, of Rutherford County , Tenn. commit tedsuicide in this place on Friday the 10th inst. by cutting his throat. Onth e morning of that day the deceased came down into the bar room of theHuntsville Inn, borrowe d a knife and went back to h is room. In a fewminutes afterwards he was found with his throa t severally cut andbleeding profusely. Medical aid was promptly called in, but his work hadbe en done too effectually, and it was found impossible to save him. Thecause of this rash act i s supposed to be puniary embarrassments. Thedeceased has left a large family.

State of Tennessee Rutherford County Court March Term 1843 To John W.Yardly a citizen of Ruth erford County, it appearing to the County Courtnow in session that John D. Fulks has died lea ving no will , and theCourt being satisfied as to your claim to the administration, and youha ving given bond and qualified as directed by law, and the Court havingordered that Letter o f Administration be paid t o you. These aretherefore to authorize and empower you to take int o your possession andcontrol all the goods, chattels, claims and papers of the said intestate and return a true and perfect inventor y thereof to our County Court in90 days, to collect an d pay all debts and to do and transact all theduties in relation to said estate which lawfull y devolve on you asadministreator, and after havin g settled up said estate to deliver theres idue thereof to those who are by law entitled...

Witness: Robert S. Morris, Clerk of said Court at office this 6th Day ofMarch 1843, and 67t h year of American Independence.

In the name of God amen I John Rawlins of the county of Charlotte beingweak in body but of so und mind and memory do make, (unreadable), &establish this my last Will and Testement. Ist , I lend unto m y belovedwife all my Estates real and personal during her natural life orwido whood. 2ndly, I decree and direct that my children, Viz. PeggyRawlins, Polly Rawlins, Willia m Rawlins, John Rawlins, Nan cy Rawlins,and Judah Rawlins to [be] maintained and educated ou t of my estate untilthey marry or come of age. 3rdly, I give to my two sons WilliamRawlinsan d John Rawlins after the death of my belov ed wife, all myLanded estates to them and their he irs forever to be equally dividedbetween them. 4thly, I desire that all my Personal estate b e equallydivided after my beloved wife's death between all my children, Viz. I think I am close to solving a long term Rawlings mystery, but I needsome help. The "Gregor y Rawlings" line is a well known line going back toGregory's arrival in Surry Co VA evidentl y in 1626. The major line goesthrough John I, II, and III. The latter had three children, Gre gory, JohnIV, and William (all born aound 1740), but only the line of William isknown. I thin k I may have found his br other John.

William md Mary Magdelene Roberts in 1767 in Halifax Co VA was inCharlotte Co VA by 1781 an d remained there until he died in 1793. I havefound that my Rawlings anscestor, John, lived n ear (and proba bly nextto) William in Charlotte Co. Wm was also the surety at John's 2nd wedd ingin Charlotte Co in 1781 to Neff Terrell. (Wm's son also md a Terrell in1794.) John's firs t marriage was roughly the same time as Wm's so Wm andJohn appear to be about the same age. J ohn died in Charlotte in 1803. Cananyone shed any more light on this mystery?
