Those wishing to do so may send contributions in her memory to a fund setup for her son, Lest er Edward "Eddie" Sherwood, who was permanentlyinjured in an accident while participating i n a Sweet Home Sportsman'sHoliday event about six years ago. She was born November 9, 1922 in Sweet Home, where she attended schoolsand graduated from Swe et Home High School in 1940. She worked for a shorttime in Corvallis, also moving to Californ ia for a sho rt period andreturning to Sweet Home about 1946. She spent most of her life in t he midvalley.
She was a member of the Sweet Home Church of Christ.
Survivors include a son, Lester Edward "Eddie" Sherwood of Portland; twodaughters, Mrs. Larr y ( Marjorie ) Little of Sweet Home and Miss DianaSue Dannen of Halsey; her mother Mrs. Libbi e Cowitz of S weet Home; twosisters Eva Looney of Sweet Home and Mrs. Edith Wetherell of Lead er,Minn.; and one grandchild.

Lester Lamont Sherwood, 81, of Springfield, died Monday.
Mr. Sherwood was born May 24, 1920 in Opheim, Montana,the son of Aubreyand Fay (Lang) Sherwoo d. He spent most of his life in Western Oregon. Helived in the Sweet Home area and graduate d from Sweet H ome High Schoolin 1939.
Serving in the Army during World War II, he participated in campaigns inEurope, Africa and th e Middle East.
He married Irene Deckert in Eugene on March 11, 1950.
Mr. Sherwood was a contract logger in Sweet Home and surrounding areas,and he enjoyed fishing , hunting, baseball and other sports.
He was a life member of the Springfield Veterans of Foreign Wars, and wasa Mason and Shriner . He and his wife took care of the WaltervilleCommunity Center for more than 22 years.
Surviving are wife Irene Sherwood; sisters, Shirley Mathers of Sweet Homeand Stella Morrell o f Creswell; and a grandson.
He was preceded in death by son Edward Sherwood, daughter Marjorie Stoneand sister Edna Helga th.
A memorial service will be at 11a.m. Saturday at the Ggeorge MillerMemorial Building at the W alterville Community Center.

He was born March 1, 1947 in Lebanon and was reared and received hiseducation in Sweet Home , where he graduated from High School in 1965.
He worked in the logging industry until being injured in an athleticcontest during the sports man's holiday celebration about five years ago.He was in the Sacred Heart Hospital in Eugen e for about si x months priorto being transferred to the Rehablition Center of Oregon in Port land.
He attended Portland State University and Portland Community College.
He married Susan E. Moe July 8, 1972 in Lebanon and the couple lived inPortland. She survives . In addition to his widow, survivors include hisfather and step-mother, Mr. and Mrs. Leste r Sherwood of Springfield; twograndmothers, Mrs. Libby Cowitz of Pleasant Valley and Mrs. Fa y LangSherwood of Sweet Home; two sisters, Mrs. Marjorie Graham of Sweet Homeand Miss Diana S ue Dannen of Halsey.
He was preceded in death by his mother Edna Dannen in 1970.

Elder Cleo Thompson will officiate at the funeral. Cremation will followat Rest Haven Mausole um in Eugene with interment in Gilliland Cemetery,Sweet Home.
He was born April 3, 1885 in Stewartsville, Mo. where he attended school,leaving at age 12 fo r Canada. In 1913 he moved to Glascow, Mont., andhomesteaded, operating a freight line part t ime.
He married another Glascow homesteader and school teacher, Fay Lang, onNovember 3, 1917. The y resided in Idaho and California before coming toSweet Home in 1934 to take up farming. The y departed Swe et Home forSisters and lived there until returning to Sweet Home 12 years ago.
He was a member of Masonic Lodge 202 AF and Am, Sweet Home.
Survivors beside his widow, Fay Sherwood, include three daughters, Mrs.Stella Morrell of Cott age Grove, Mrs. Edna Helgath of Kent, Wash., andMrs. Shirley Mathers of Sweet Home; and a son , Lester She rwood ofSpringfield.

Former Cottage Grove resident Verel "Slim" Morrell of Pleasant Hill diedJan. 7 of diabetes. H e was 77. Mr. Morrell was born Aug. 7, 1925, in ElkRiver, Minn., to William and Jennie Crozie r Morrell. H e married NormaMinch. They later divorced. He married Stella Sherwood. They late rdivorced. He married Carolyn Ostby. They later divorced. He moved to thisarea in 1955, and h e lived in Port Orford a nd Cottage Grove beforesettling in Pleasant Hill two years ago. He s erved in the Army. He wasemployed as a rancher and logger and was also a mill owner. He enjoy edworking, hunting and traveling. Su rvivors include two sons, Dennis ofCreswell and Rick o f Eugene; six grandchildren; and eightgreat-grandchildren. A memorial service was held at Eng land's EugeneMemorial Chapel on Jan. 14. A recepti on followed. Private burial was atPleasan t Hill Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to theAmerican Diabetes Association. Engl and's Eugene Memorial Chapel is incharge of arrangements.
