CONC
LDS Record:
Martha JAMESON (AFN:1T2X-FVF)
Born: 1800
Place: Woodford Co., Kentucky
Died: 1853 , Haywood Co., Tennessee

Reported to be an Episcopal Methodist.

After Jesse's death, Martha and two youngest daughters moved to Haywood County, Tennessee where she died. Martha was a member of the Methodist Episcopal Church. James Green Rodgers contributed this information to a GOODSPEED'S publication of the NW Counties of Arkansas in 1889 - Benton County. James Green Rodgers, son of Jesse and Martha Jameson Rodgers and great-grandson of Gen. Green, was born in Warren County, KY., May 8, 1826. His paternal grandfather, Jesse Rodgers (1), was one of the pioneer settlers of KY. The maternal grandfather, William Jameson, was another early settler of Kentucky, about 1785. Jesse Rodgers (2) was married to Martha Jameson in Daviess Co. KY., 1821. After marriage they moved to Sangamon Co., IL., back to KY., then on to Rutherford Co., TN., where Jesse (2) died in 1834. Martha died in Haywood Co., TN. She was the daughter of William and Nancy Kirkham Jameson who were married 1796 in Woodford Co. KY. "Family Tales" are that they came to Shawneetown and later to the Falls of the Ohio. Jesse (1) suppposedly had other sons, John, Henry and Joe. Jesse (2) had James G. and three daughters, Arie E. Martha A. and Sarah E. James Green had a daughter named Arie too - my Grandmother. I would love to find a family historian interested in this branch. Also, by 1860, Nancy must be dead as well as Martha J. Rodgers, who died in 1853. Martha Ann, James Green's older sister had married William P. Yearwood, in 1848, and by 1850 they were living in Haywood Co., TN, with a daughter, Sarah, about 1 year. They are #47 and near them is #43, John A. Yearwood, b. NC, with wife, Elizabeth, and six children. By 1860 in Haywood Co, I believe that James Green's sister must be dead because William P. Yearwood is living with John A. Yearwood, #957/854. All the living children of both John A. and William P. are in that household. Next to the Yearwoods, #956/853, is James G. Rodgers, 35, Farmer & Tanner born KY, Elizabeth 26, born TN, Sarah E., 8, Martha, 6, and Jesse, 4. Around 1850 Martha Jameson Rodgers moved to Haywood Co., TN, from Rutherford Co., TN, with her daughter, Martha Ann Rodgers Yearwood. Martha had married William P. Yearwood in Rutherford Co., TN. According to Goodspeed's, Martha Jameson Rodgers died in Haywood Co., in 1853. In 1850 Census of Rutherford Co.TN., Martha and her mother, Nancy Kirkham Jameson, are listed in the household of James Jameson. He was a widower with two children: William A., 10 years, and Sarah, 7 years. James Green is also listed in this household. He is 23 years, his mother, Martha, is 50 years, and his grandmother, Nancy, is 70 years. Also there is his younger sister, Sarah, who is 15 years. The two older sisters, Arie and Martha, are married. James is also listed in the household of his future father-in-law, Marshall Hale Saunders. James was employed as overseer for MHS.

Some one wrote me about this m arriage and Ibelieve her name is Espey and they married in 1856. Ja mes was a widowerin the 1850 Census of Rutherford Co. with William A. WilliamA(lexander) Jameson, the son of James, Martha's brother, married a J aneWebber and by 1880 they are living next to James Green Rodgers in BentonCo., AR. with Jane 's Father, John A. Webber. It must be noted, thatMartha Melvina R odgers, a daughter of Jame s Green and Ruamah ElizabethRodgers, married Mr. Webber, Jane's Father, after her 1st husband , Mark.D. Allen, d. bef 1880, and 2nd husband, Allen Rich, d. Jan 1898. Mattieand John Webbe r married sometime after 1898. Martha and two daughters then moved to Haywood Co., TN where she died in 1853. Jesse was a member of the Baptist Church. He was a Whig. Barbara Hopper Garrison told me that their marriage is recorded in the records at the court house of Davies County, Owensboro, KY. Letter from James I. Rodgers dated 1954: "I can't help you much with our ancestry. My father never told me very much about his people and I was young and did not remember. His fathers name was Jesse. He was a baptist minister and his politics Whigg. He past on when father was 6 years old. There were 3 girls as I remember Martha, Matilda and Arie all born in Kentucky I think but I do not remember any address. Father run a wood yard on the Ohio river sold wood to the boats when a kid was an oversear of slaves on a plantation. Married Elizabeth Saunders in Tennessee at Murfisborro." Jesse immigrated from Scotland to SouthHampton, NY in 1780. (Long Island). NY Census of 1790 lists Joseph, Sr. (probably the father) with two sons: Jacob and Jesse. It shows Jacob having 5 boys and 2 girls. By 1799 Jesse is patenting land in Warren Co., KY - by 1834 in Barren Co. His paternal grandfather, Jesse Rodgers (1), was one of the pioneer settlers of KY. Jesse Rodgers (2) was married to Martha Jameson in Daviess Co. KY., 1821. After marriage they moved to Sangamon Co., IL., back to KY., then on to Rutherford Co., TN., where Jesse (2) died in 1834.
