Emily and her brothers and sisters were equally given the estate of theirfather William Rober t "Bud" Jamison because he had no will. Emily at thattime was married to Mose Boyd, Sr. The f amily (broth ers & sisters)decided to sign over to Emily and Mose the farm because at that ti me theycould not afford buy it for the dividing the funds with her siblings. Thefarm was pass ed on to Mose Boyd, Jr. the only issue. Mose & Zera gaveaway the farm in their old age befor e Zera died for $1 under undeterminedconditions to a couple that befriended them. Some have s aid that thissame couple had done t his before but typically no one had the financialmeans o f taking it to court. Estimates range to $10,000 in court cost todo so. The courts were no t interested in protecting the rights of theelderl y in the Rutherford Co., TN area. Less tha n one week after theysigned away the farm, they signed away their power of attorney as well.F riends, neighbors and relatives have yet to determine the motiv ation togive it way after i t had been in the Jamison family for almost a 100years. Almost everyone in the community kno w of the situation and freelyshare the events surrounding the farm.

The First Jamisons [Male]
Change: 17 JAN 2013

2056
The Jamisons are said to originated in Scotland in the extreme north ofthat country in the ar ea Sutherland and Caithness, where they weremembers of the clan Gunn. The founders of the cl an were Nors eman. Thefounder of the clan was said to be a pirate who settled at Ulbster inCa ithness. His descendants and the Keiths were continually at war witheach other. The daughte r of Lachlan Gunn was car ried off by a Keith toAckergill, where she threw herself from the t op of the tower. In 1426the two clans fought a indecisive battle near Thurso. Another encou nteroccurred on the Muir of Tannach i n 1438; the Gunns were defeated. In1426 the clans agre ed to settle in a friendly way. The Keithstreacherously attacked and cut the Gunns to pieces . The greater part ofthe clan afterward migrated to Sutherland. From Henry Gunn the Henderso nsof Caithness descended. Sir William Gunn of this clan fought valiantlyunder Gustavus Adolp hus. In 1636, on the Plains Weslock, he was chieflyinstrume ntal in the defeating the Austri ans. Charles I knighted him forbravery. The Chiefs of Clan Gunn were Hereditary Coroners o f Caithness, and the Official Badge of the Coroner was a great buckle of Ce lticdesign. The C lan Seat is at Clyth Castle, Caithness. TheJameson/Jamieson/Jamison family is connected wit h Gunn, Stuart of Bute.(extracts from The Scottish Tartans with Historical Sketches of the Cl ansand families of Scotland revised by Sir Thomas Innes of Learney, published by Johnston & Ba con, Edinburgh.)

R. R. MacIan, in his Clans of the Scotch Highlands published in 1845 byAckerman Co., London f ound in the public library in Edinburgh said - -"Clan Nan Guinnaich or Gunns - The Gunns wer e in the nor th, thecounterpart of the MacGregors in the south. Although not numerous, theywe re most distinguished in very indicative of their general character.Guinneach signifies sharp , keen, fierce, and was doubtlessly imposed asdescriptive of their known dispositions. The de rivation of the clan isfrom Guin, second son of Clans or Ollar the Black, king of Man and the Isles, who died in 1237.

From James, son of George, the chief who flourished in the end of thefifteenth century, is de rived the patronymics of MacJamais, by which theyave since been distinguished from their coun trymen." (It has been saidthat English for MAC is son, so the translation of MacJamias into E nglishwould be Jameson. It is further recorded that members of the clanmigrated to Ulster Co unty, Ireland, from whe re they came to America.)There are some 57 plus versions of the James on name, some by the desireto be different but probably mostly because of general illiterac y andignorance of both the Jamesons and those who enumerated the citizen ofearly American. I n any case, the misuse of our name has been common inthe case of the author's short life a s a Jamison when compared to thosewho have lived be fore him.

The name Jameson and its variants, Jamieson, Jamison and Jemison is ofbaptismal origin signif ying "The son of James". The purely EnglishJamison and it variants are almost entirely confin ed to North England, and the majority are of the Lowland Scottish descent. On the other hand,J ames as a surname is often English as north, which accounts for themultitude of its modern re presentatives. Early r ecords of the name areas follows: James of Jacobus Auditdleg, Count y Salop 1273; Walter James,County Somerset; Willelmus Jameson, 1379; Johannes Jamesman, 1379 ; AlioiaJames, 1379. (from John Carty and 4000 Descendants, 1755-1978, Researchedand Combile d by John H. Jamison, Helen (Baker) Cauley, James E. Bell,June (Jamison) Jaycox published i n 1979 by Walsworth Publishing Company,Marceline, Mo ., USA.

The Jamison Family in the Colonies:
"James Jamison, the son of Alexander Jamison, was born in 1650 inGlasgow, Scotland. He emigra ted to Galway, Ireland and came to Americawith his two sons, Robert and John, in 1700. They s ettled near York,Pennsylvania. John was born in 1680. There is no information available onRob ert.

It is reported that John Jamison came to this country when his father wasabout twenty years o f age. He was the first white man to settle withinthe limits of what became Little Brittain T ownship, Pen nsylvania. Thename of his first wife is unknown. There were twelve children--on e of hiswife and eleven of the second marriage. The order of their birth isunknown. John le ft about 1x00 acres of l and to his twelve children. Itis a matter of history that "When i t was a contemplation to divide thetownship Drumore, (from which this was taken, i.e. Littl e Brittain, andwhile one proposed one na me and another offered another, with respect ofconsi derable difficulty is settling the question,) John Jamison, one ofthe oldest and most promine nt citizens, said to the company, "Most of usecame f rom Great Brittain as our native place . I propose the name ofLittle Brittain, in memory of our mother country." The name wasfavor ably received and the township, when organized, was named accordingly." reference: The Histo ry of Lancaster County, Pennsylvania. Theinformation is reported to be taken from "The Jamiso ns in America" byEphrain Jamison, published by the Rumford Press of Concord, N .H. in1901 a t Boston, Massachusetts.

Thomas Jamison, son of John, was born November 7, 1732. He was a farmerand served in the Mili tia under General Washington. He fought through thecampaign of July 5, 1755 which resulted i n Braddock's defeat. He settledin Georgia after marrying Jane Dickey in 1756. She died in 176 3. He latermoved with his four children to Virginia, living near Charlottesville ata place ca lled Jamison's Mountain. He also lived on Pigg River inFranklin County. He died April 6, 1830 ."

The following is also report posted by Patricia Duncan on February 20,1998: Boy, Thomas Jamis on sure did move around a lot! Pennsylvania toVirginia to Georgia, back to Virginia, and on t o Indiana. I 've neverseen the like. The following is from the Roanoke, Va.

Franklin County, Virginia Families:
"Thomas Jamison, born 7 November, 1732, son of John Jamison. 1761:Albermarle County, 1762: mo ved to Georgia, 1760's: returned to AlbermarleCounty , Moved to present Franklin County (the n Henry), bef ore 1776;settled on Snow Creek, Moved to Indiana , Died in Jefferson County,Ind iana, 6 April 1830 married firstly, in 1756 Jane Dickey, of LoudounCounty, Va., born 1740/4 1 she died in Georgia in 17 63."

There were four Jamison families in Virginia in 1784. These were: David,John, Samuel and Wil liam Jamison listed as head of households. It isbelieved by John H. Jamison who compiled "Jo hn Carty and 4000 Descendants1755-1978" that John married Susanah who was born in Virginia h ad theirfirst child "Julia" in Greenbrier Co., Virginia. They moved to Kentuckyand then move d to Missouri and later to Searcy Co., Arkansas. They had12 children. None of this family ap parently ever made it to Tennessee andwere apparently their children went on to Missouri an d never to be partof the Kentucky to Tennessee movement. It is unknown about David, Samuelan d William Jamison who remained in Virginia or what happened. It isunknown if any moved on t o Kentucky.

For the record, the historian of the above record list the children: 1)Julia b. 1810 Ky, 2 ) John C. 'Jack' b. 1815 KY, 3) unknown boy, 4)Permelia, 5) Mary "Polly" b. 1819 IL, 6) a boy , 7&8) two gir ls and 9)Mastin b. 1829 MO, 10) Ebenezar B. b. 1831 MO, 11) Lorenzo Dow b. 183 5 MOand 12) a final boy.

In the 1790 census there were 140 families who had Jameson or similarnames: Jameson, Jamerson , Jameston, Jamieson, Jamison, Jammeson,Jammison, Jamson, Jamerson, Jemeson, Jemeyson, Jemin son, Jemisso n,Jemmison, Jimerson, Jimeson and Jimmison. 5.1 persons per household with568 ot her persons.
