Gary Fulks, Sr. (1933-2006): "He Still Speaks"
When you visit the Fulks' home on a high hill in Williamson County, youare reminded of Jesus ' promise concerning his disciples: You are thelight of the world. A city on a hi/I cannot b e hidden. Gary Fulks' lifefor Christ was never hidden! Last Tuesday morning the Bellevue Chur ch ofChrist lost a great light when Gary died after a struggle with lungcancer. As Hebrews sa ys of Abel: By faith he s till speaks, even thoughhe is dead.
He was the kind of leader who was first and foremost "a pastor of people"at the Bellevue Chur ch. He was the kind of man many found easy to speakwith about their problems and struggles.
Gary was an elder who constantly talked about the Lord's Church. Heretired from the United St ates Navy back in the 1970's and then beganfull-time teaching at Lipscomb University. However , the Church of Christwas Gary's first-love, and he shared the Lord's passion for making thec hurch reflective of Jesus' Glory.
Finally, brother Fulks proclaimed the Gospel of Christ in Biblical terms. He appreciated sermo ns, classes, and articles that make clear the Bibleas the Word of God. The obligation of Chur ch Leadershi p in anygeneration is to give emphasis to The People, The Church, and The Bible.
Like Abel, brother Gary Fulks is still speaking. His family that remains, his church that cont inues the work, and his students at the University onwhom he had a huge influence repeat hi s words. he st ill speaks, eventhough he is dead.

The story is told by Marlin Conelly that when Gary was a Leutenant at a Navel shipyard up north that he decided that he wanted to marry a girl back home. He didn't feel it appropriate for such a proposition to be made by mail or telephone so the ask his brother to go and ask Janet for him. He did and she accepted. They were married on September 22, 1956.
