A native of Sumner Co., TN. she was the daughter of the late Sam Gregory and the late Luria Russell Gregory. She was preceded in death by a son Glenn Dale Uhls and 2 sisters Robbie Nell Gregory and Helen Marie Gregory.
She is survived by her husband Glenn Uhls, a son Darrell Uhls (Wendy) of Franklin, KY., 3 sisters Peggy Ard of Franklin, KY., Patricia Wright of Gallatin and Judy Russell of Franklin, KY., 2 brothers Ralph Gregory of Portland, TN. and Steve Gregory of Gallatin, TN., 3 grandchildren Derrick, Amy and Ashley Uhls all of Franklin, KY., several nieces and nephews and several great nieces and nephews. Mrs. Uhls was a Baptist and a Homemaker.

MRS. GREGORY - Funeral Set at Tomlinson Church of God Portland,Tenn., Dec 27--(Spl)--Mrs.Josephine Gregory, 67, widow of George W. Gregory, died at the old homestead four miles west of Portland, Thursday morning at 9:30 a. m. after an extended illiness. Funeral services will be conducted at 2 p.m.Saturday at the Tomlinson Church of God of which she was a member by L. M. Moxley, state overseer; assisted by Elder L. W. John was married to Sarah "Sallie" Harper the daughter of Edmond Harper and Elizabeth S. Martin. John and Sarah Gregory had at least 12 children: William Alexander, Margaret L., Nancy Elizabeth (Gregory),Mary Ann (Belt), John B., James Knox Polk, George M. Dallas, Marcus L., Sarah W. (Carter), Thomas Jefferson, Louisa, and Andrew Jackson.
John D. Gregory (son of William Gregory and Mary "Polly" Epperson Gregory) was born in 1808. In 1861 he enlisted in Nashville, Tn. as a private in Company B 18th Tennessee Confederate Infantry which was composed of Sumner Co. men and he trained at Camp Trousdale. According to his military records he died in the Confederate Camp at Bowling Green, Kentucky in 1861. His records state that he was in a hospital before he died. In a 1955 newspaper article written by Cal Gregory of Smith County, Tennessee family legend states that John was accidentally scalded to death. When soldiers died at this camp if they were claimed their bodies were sent home and if not they were buried in Bowling Green in several different locations. We do not know exactly what happened to John but with the help of Mr. Stephen Lynn King of the Bowling Green Sons Of Confederate Veterans a memorial marker was set up for John at the unknown Confederate section of the Fairview Cemetery in Bowling Green, Warren County, Kentucky in June of 2003. - Daniel O'Dell Gregory

July 14, 1914(my father), Irene Caroline Gregory b. November 5, 1916 and Woodrow Wilson Gregory b. January 16 1919. In 1910 census he states he is 52 making his birthdate 1858. His Marriage Certificate, dated Aug 1913, to Elizabeth Burkett Barrineau, states he is 51 making his birthdate 1862. The submitter remembers his father saying he came from Marietta GA to Charleston.

John B. enlisted in the 6th Kentucky Mounted Infantry Regiment (Confederate).
He was in Company F. A Union minnie ball struck him in the right arm near the
elbow on the second day of the Battle of Shiloh (April 7, 1862). He was
permanantly disabled. He was transferred to Company I and honorably discharged
on Sept. 9, 1862. He spent the remainder of the war in Mississippi convalescing
and suffering with Septeomia which affected his lungs and eyes (he went blind as
an older man).

His parents are John D & Sarah W Harper Gregory. His father, John was killed in Bowling Green, KY during the Civil War. John Bell and his brother, William Alexander also signed up.
John Bell Gregory, probably named after John Bell the TN politician (1797-1869)as many of the Gregorys were named after presidents or politicians, enlisted on 7 Oct 1861. He was a Private with Co.F, 6th KY Regiment of Confederate Infantry, also called the Orphan Brigade. He was wounded on the second day of the Battle of Shiloh, 7 Apr 1862. He was shot by a Union soldier with a minnie ball in his right arm. It stayed lodged in his arm for about 4 years before it was removed. He was honorably discharged on 9 Sep 1862 because of the injury and the sickness it caused. The doctors said he had Septicemia (blood poisoning) which affected his lungs and eyes....eventually he was blinded. John did not take the oath of allegiance to the United States Government at the end of the war. After he received his pension he moved from Sumner Co, TN to Robertson Co, TN.
