James Delbert Meador, age 71, of Siloam Community was dead on arrival at Macon County General Hospital Wednesday morning May 27th of an apparent heart attack. He was a grader operator for the Macon County Highway Department.
Funeral services were held Friday morning, May 29th at 11 a. m. at the Eulia General Baptist church by Woodrow Gregory and Raymond Adcock. Interment was in the Eulia Cemetery.
He is survived by his wife, Mrs. Erma Akins Meador; 3 sons, W. L. Meador, Randall Meador and Michael Meador, all of Westmoreland; one daughter Mrs. Jewell Hollis Cothron of Lafayette; one sister, Mrs. Omadell Jones of Westmoreland; 9 grandchildren and 9 great grandchildren.

Services for Mrs. Erma Meador, 81 of Westmoreland, will be held at 2 p.m. today at Eulia General Baptist Church with Brother Wesley Briley and Brother Jimmy Cushenberry officiating.
Burial will follow in Eulia Cemetery.
She died Saturday April 14, 1990.
She was the daughter of the late Willie Richard Akin and Bessie Wix Akin and was married to the late James Delbert Meador.
She is survived by two sons, W. L. Meador and Michael Meador, both of Westmoreland, one daughter, Jewel Hollis Cothron of Lafayette, five brothers, S. G. Akin and Tommy Akin, both of Westmoreland, Ora Akin and Jessie Akin all of Indiana; four sisters, Frances Gregory and Catherine Johns, both of Westmoreland, and Betty Leath and Lorene Burdine, both of Indiana; 10 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren.

Jewel Hollis Meador [Female] b. 26 NOV 1928 Siloam, Macon Co., TN - d. 14 SEP 2014 Westmoreland, Sumner Co., TN

Mrs. Jewel Hollis (Meador) Cothron was born November 26, 1928 to the late James Delbert Meador and Erma Akin Meador. She was the first of three girls and three boys born to this union. She departed this Earth on Sunday, September 14, 2014 at the age of 85 years, 9 months and 19 days.
She was saved by God’s grace as young girl and united with Siloam Missionary Baptist Church where she remained a member until God called her home.
Hollis was married to Howard Clinton Cothron on October 2, 1954, sharing forty-nine years together, until his death on June 7, 2004. To this union two daughters were born Carol and Cheryl.
After her marriage, Hollis spent most of her life as a housewife and mother caring for the family. Her talent for sewing led her to make most of the family’s clothing, as well as sewing for other people. As her children grew up she started piecing quilts and quilting them by hand making sure that each of her family received one of these treasured quilts.
She loved her flowers and her yard became a showcase of different flowers each spring with all the colors of the rainbow.
Hollis was preceded in death by her husband, parents, and son-in-law, Ronnie Leath, two young sisters, Ruby Irene and Earline Meador, and two brothers, Reverend W.L. Meador and Randal Meador.
She is survived by two daughters, Carol Leath Scott and husband Dallas and Cheryl Cashman and husband Mark, four grandchildren, Gary Leath and wife Kim, Jennifer Turner, David Rader and wife Ashley, Daniel Rader and wife Michelle, and nine great grandchildren, Meleah and Trista Leath, Dale, Morgan, Bailey and Macy Turner, Caylie and Knox Rader and Madeline McGee.
Hollis is also survived by; one brother, Michael Meador and wife Shelia and two sisters-in-law, Betty Meador and Rebecca Meador,, Two brothers-in-law, Donnie Cothron and wife Maurene and Harold Gene Cothron. She is also survived by many cousins, friends and neighbors.
As we say goodbye to Hollis on this Earth, it is our sincere prayer that each one will be able to meet her again in Heaven one day.
Funeral services for Jewel Hollis Cothron were conducted on Tuesday, September 16, at 2 pm from the Chapel of Alexander Funeral Home with Reverend Harold King and Brother Ricky Vance officiating. Gary Leath, David Rader, Daniel Rader, Shawn Turner, Dale Turner, and Ronnie Meador served as Pallbearers. She was laid to rest, beside her husband Howard, in Eulia Cemetery.

Funeral services for Rev. W. L. Meador, age 78, of Westmoreland, TN, were held Thursday, May 15, 2008 at 11 a.m. from Eulia General Baptist Church with Rev. Wayne Keen and Rev. Larry Sloan officiating. Interment was in Eulia Cemetery. A Masonic Service was held Wednesday, May 14, 2008 at 7:00 p.m.
Rev. Meador passed away Monday, May 12, 2008.
He was the son of the late James Delbert Meador and the late Erma Selma Akins Meador and was united in marriage to Betty Jean Gregory Meador of Westmoreland.
Mr. Meador was retired from General Electric and was a member of Trammel Lodge #436; was a member of Eulia General Baptist Church; and was a General Baptist Minister for over 52 years.
Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother Randell Meador and sisters, Earlene and Irene Meador.
Survivors include his wife, Betty Jean Gregory Meador of Westmoreland; son Ronnie (Janice) Meador of Springfield; daughters, Sharon (Jerry) Bonds of Scottsville, KY and Glenda (Tim) Sloan of Westmoreland; brother Michael Meador of Westmoreland; sister, Hollis Cothron of Lafayette; and 6 grandchildren and 2 great-grandchildren.

He was born in Westmoreland on Aug 8, 1939, the son of the late James Delbert Meador and Erma Akin Meador.
In addition to his mother, he is survived by his wife Rebecca Smith Meador, two sons, Michael Graves of Gallatin and Chris Meador of Westmoreland, a daughter Vickie Lynn Clark of Lafayette; two brothers, W. L. Meador and Michael Meador, both of Westmoreland, one sister, Jewel Hollis Cothron of Lafayette and two grandchildren.

Howard Clinton Cothron, age 86, of Lafayette, TN., was pronounced dead on Arrival Monday June 7, 2004 at Macon County General Hospital. The Macon County, Tennessee native was born Saturday February 2, 1918, a son of the late Elisha Cothron and Susan Vance Cothron, and was a farmer.
He is survived by his wife Jewel Meador Cothron, of Lafayette, TN; 2 daughters and a son-in-law, Carol and Dallas Scott, Lafayette, TN.,; and Cheryl Jordan, Dayton, TN; 3 brothers, Carl Cothron, of the Eulia Community; Donnie Cothron, Lafayette, TN; and Harold G. Cothron, Hartsville, TN; 2 sisters, Ruth Sloan, Westmoreland, TN; and Lassie Key, Portland TN; and 4 grandchildren. In addition to his parents, he was also preceded in death by a brother Fred Cothron and son-in-law, Ronnie Leath.
Funeral services for Howard Clinton Cothron were conducted Thursday, June 10, 2004 at Alexander-Goad Funeral Home with Rev. Harold King and Bro. Ricky Vance officiating. Burial was in the Eulia Cemetery.
Active pallbearers were Dwight Cothron, Jimmy Wilburn, Arthur Anderson, Ronnie Meador, Tim Sloan, and Mike Graves.

Fred Vance Cothron [Male] b. 22 FEB 1922 Macon Co., TN - d. 28 JUL 1944 France

FIRST MACON COUNTIAN BROUGHT TO NATIVE SOIL
The first soldier of World War II is to be brought back to his native land for burial was S/Sgt Fred Vance Cothron whose mortal remains were returned to Gallatin last Thursday after a trip of nearly 4,000 miles from his first burial place in France. The casket bearing his body was taken to the funeral home at Hartsville on Thursday night. On Friday afternoon, the body was brought to the home of the parents, Mr. and Mrs. Elisha Cothron on Route 1, Lafayette, Tenn., near the Gap of the Ridge.
After remaining in the home one night, the sleeping dust was taken to Eulia where funeral services were held on Saturday by Elder F. W. Lambert. Then following a military burial with the Veterans of Foreign Wars, and the American Legion making the burial. Buck Harris was in special charge of the military honors shown the death with a salute fired over his grave. The sermon and the work of the ex-servicemen were beautifully done and were very impressive.
Young Cothron was born February 26, 1922 and entered the Army in September 1942, training at Fort Sam Houston in Texas, and later being sent to Camp McCoy, Wisconsin. He left for service in Europe, landing in Ireland on October 1943 and went at once to the front. He took part in the invasion of Normandy, and was killed in action on July 28, 1944.
S/Sgt Cothron attended school at Pisgah, and later put in some time in the Lafayette High School. He was loved by all who knew him, having a pleasant smile and friendly ways that attracted friends everywhere, both as a civilian and as a soldier. He was of excellent character and was a moral young man. Judging from the letters written to his parents and others, had made peace with his God. He was a good soldier who gave all he had for his country.
In addition to his parents, he leaves four brothers, Howard, Carl, Harold and Donnie, all of the Gap of the Ridge section; two sisters, Mrs. Ruth Sloan of Route 2, Westmoreland; and Mrs. W. B. Key of Portland and a 92 year old grandmother, Mrs. Susan Vance, who resides with the Cothron family. He left also a host of other relatives and friends who regret his early and tragic death, which was not in vain.

MS. RUTH COTHRON SLOAN, age 83 of Lafayette, Tennessee passed away June 16, 2011 at Sumner Regional Medical Center in Gallatin, Tennessee.
Funeral Services for Ms. Ruth Cothron Sloan were conducted on Saturday, June 18, at 2 p.m. from the Chapel of the Alexander Funeral Home with Reverend Guthrie Gregory and Brother Jerry Gammon officiating. Brian Carr, Shane Nichols, Billy Brawner, Troy Cothron, Fred Cothron, and Judson Clark served as Pallbearers. Interment followed in the Eulia Cemetery.
Ruth was born on July 22, 1927 in Macon County, Tennessee to the late Elisha Clay and Susan Vance Cothron. She was one of six children born to this union.
In 1944, she was married to Cecil Ray Sloan, sharing twenty-six years together and raising two daughters. Cecil Ray preceded her in death on November 12, 1970.
Besides her husband and parents; daughter, Marjorie Carr, grandson, Jeff Carr, brothers, Fred V. Cothron, Howard Cothron, and Carl Cothron, and a half-sister, Lassie Key, also preceded her in death.
She was employed by C. & C. Sportswear in Westmoreland, working there for several years until she retired in 1990.
Ruth spent most of her time with her children and grandchildren; they were her life. She was a very quiet and laid back person. She mostly enjoyed staying at home and watching her favorite television shows.
She was of the General Baptist Belief. Ruth will be greatly missed by her family and friends.
Ruth is survived by: daughter, Shirley (Mike) Nichols, brothers, Donnie (Maureen) Cothron all of Lafayette, TN, and Harold Gene Cothron of Hartsville, TN, grandchildren, Brian Carr of Lafayette, TN, Kim (Elton) Mathews of Hartsville, TN, Shane (Tammy) Nichols, and Shanda (Billy) Brawner all of Lafayette, TN, seven great-grandchildren, one great great-grandchild, and several nieces and nephews, also survive.

The 1940 census show Jasse Parker and Arlie Parker living in Akron, Ohio. An earlier census showed Jessie living with his brother Carl in Ohio.

Billy V. Sloan, 61, of Hendersonville, died Friday, Oct 21, 1994.
The funeral was 2 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 23, at Cole and Garrett Funeral Home with Doug Curtis officiating. Burial followed in Eulia Cemetery, Westmoreland.
Active pallbearers were friends and neighbors.
He was born on Feb. 14, 1933, in Macon County to the late J. P. (Jack) Sloan and Polly Vance Sloan. He was prededed in death by brothers Ray, Bobby, and Joe Sloan.
He worked in sales and service at AA Sewing Machines.
He served in the U. S. Army during the Korean Conflict. He was the Senior Vice Commander of the Korean Veterans of Tennessee. He was past president of the Madison Lions Club, past member of the Madison Elks Lodge # 2473, Member of the TSSAA, past member of the Mid-Tennessee Umpires Association, past member of the Hendersonville Umpires Association and coached girls softball in Hendersonville for many years.
He is survived by his wife, Shirley White Sloan; a son, Kevin Vance Sloan; a brother, Earl Dean Sloan of Madison; sisters Ruth Clark of Hartsville, Sue Williams of Donelson, Kathleen Christian of Westmoreland and Peggy Freeman of LaFayette.

Ronnie Dale Carr, age 65, of Hartsville, TN, passed away Saturday, November 21, 2009 at Sumner Regional Medical Center. Funeral services were conducted Tuesday, November 24th, at 2 p.m., from chapel of Alexander Funeral Home with Brother Tracy Deering officiating. Austin Mathews, Brook Carr, Abby Carr, Class of 1964 Football Team, past and present employees of Columbia Gulf served as Honorary Pallbearers. Steve Walton, Bobby Huffines, Jason Moore, Terry Parker, Randall Carr, and Jim Carr served as active pallbearers. Interment followed in the Green Grove Cemetery.

Ronnie Dale Carr departed this life on November 21, 2009, at the age of 65. He was born on July 15, 1944 in Macon County, TN, to his parents; James Cordell Carr and the late Nellie Sue Jones Carr. Ronnie married the former Marjorie Faye Sloan on May 12, 1964, sharing thirty-six years together and raising two sons and a daughter, Marjorie preceded him in death on July 21, 2000. Besides his wife and mother; son, Jeff Carr, also preceded him in death.

As a young boy, Ronnie enjoyed playing football in high school; he graduated with the Class of 1964. He was employed by Columbia Gulf for thirty-four years as a welder, before retiring in 1999. Ronnie worked most of his life, but took up hunting and fishing with his neighbors and grandson, after retiring. He enjoyed cooking and sitting back watching football. Ronnie was just a country boy and a simply man, that loved his family and cherished the time he had with his grandson, Austin. He will be missed by all who knew and loved him.

Ronnie is survived by; daughter, Kim and husband Elton Mathews of the Storytown Community, son, Brian Carr of the Storytown Community, father, Cordell Carr of the Green Grove Community, brother, Bill and wife Patsy Carr of the Green Grove Community, grandchildren, Austin Mathews of the Storytown Community, Brook Carr of Lafayette, Abby Carr of Hartsville, and mother-in-law, Ruth Sloan of Westmoreland, also survives.

William Debow 'Dock' Meador [Male] b. 6 FEB 1853 Macon Co., TN - d. 14 OCT 1922 Sumner Co., TN

William Meador was licensed by the Mt.Union Association of General Baptist in 1878, at the third session which was held at Eulia Church, and was ordained to the full work of the ministry on August 17, 1884.
Rev. Meador served the Association in the following capacities: Moderator in 1893, Clerk from 1896 until 1906 and again from 1909 until 1919 and from 1921 until 1922. This period of 24 years is the longest term of service of any clerk up to this time. He was also clerk of the presbytery. Rev. Meador served as Home Missionary Field Worker in 1896, 1903, 1905 and 1906. In 1889 Rev. Meador was one of the directors of Mt. Union Association's first Home Mission Board.
Rev. Meador pastored churches from the beginning of his ministry, some years as many as four at a time. We have records of the following churches in the Mt. Union Association: 1885-1888: Pleasant Hill, 1889: Macedonia, 1890-1893: Pleasant Hill, 1894: Hollis Chapel, New Liberty, 1895: New Liberty, Old Providence, 1896: New Liberty, 1897: New Liberty, Garret's Creek, 1899: Pleasant Hill, Carter's Chapel, Highland, 1900: Friendship, New Liberty, Highland, 1901: Pleasant Hill, Friendship, New Liberty, Highland, 1902: Pleasant Hill, Friendship, New Liberty, 1903: Pleasant Hill, 1906: Garret's Creek, 1908: Old Providence, 1909: Mitchellville, State Line, 1910: Mitchellville, 1911: Pleasant Hill, Mitchellville, Hollis Chapel, Oak Grove, 1912: Pleasant Hill, Hollis Chapel, 1913: State Line, 1914: Pleasant Grove, 1920: Old Providence. Meador witnessed many conversions during his ministry. The records show that in 1905 he witnessed 50 conversions, and in 1906, as Home Missionary Field Worker, he witnessed 26 conversions.
Rev. Meador moved his membership from Eulia General Baptist Church to Pleasant Hill General Baptist Church.
Rev. Meador served as clerk of the Association in 1922 and passed away on October 14, 1922.
Rev. E. C. Jones preached a memorial sermon for Rev. Meador in 1923 at the Association using the text, "Blessed are the dead which die in the Lord, for they rest from their labors, and their works do follow them".
A memorial tribute, appearing in the Associational Minutes in 1923, was written by two minister members of Pleasant Hill Church, Rev. S. B. Brockett and Rev. H. D. Jent:
We the church at Pleasant Hill realize in the death of Elder W. D. Meador that we have lost one of our best members. Bro. Meador loved the church and was a help and strength to the church. He has fought a good fight, kept the faith, finished his work and gone to his reward. We miss him in our homes, in the church, and the Association. Let us try with all our might to live the devoted life he lived, and we shall meet him in glory.
