Individuals : Winkler Henry
Susan was born in May, 1826 and married Coonrod on March 7, 1850 in Estill Co., KY. She was the daughter of Lewis Winkler born April 10, 1785 in Salisbury, Rowan Co., NC who died January 22, 1855 in Estill Co., KY. Her mother was Sarah "Sally" born about 1791 in PA and died September 18,1868. Lewis and Sally were married about 1805. I am not certain about all her brothers and sisters as there is some discussion on these boards right now regarding this family. Lewis Winkler's father was Henry, born March 1, 1755/56 in Easton, Northampton Co., PA who died July 1, 1836 in Estill Co., KY. This Henry was the Revolutionary War soldier whose service has been documented by the DAR. Please let me know if I can help you any more. Also, please share your info on Wade and Celia.

Melissa,
I've checked a few things and found that Hubert's father was Lawson Alex Winkler, born July 30, 1875 GA, died April 15, 1937 GA. He and Evie are buried in the Mt. Pleasant United Methodist Church Cemetery. Lawson was the son of L. Anderson Winkler and Sarah Smith. L. Anderson was the son of Thomas Winkler and Easter Fisher (from which most of the White County, Georgia Winklers descend). If you haven't already found this information maybe this will be of help.

this information
Thomas Winkler as many of my neighbors and friends are descended from a Thomas Winkler who married an Easter Fisher. This Thomas was born 10 June 1794 in NC and died 27 March 1890 in White County, Georgia. He is buried in Mt. Pleasant UMC Cemetery in the Blue Ridge district of White County. Easter was born 2 February 1810 in NC but died in Ducktown, Tennessee. There is lengthier information on them in the White County Family History Book which was compiled over 20 years ago. I don't have a copy or I would be happy to give you the information in it. As a side note, White County was formed from parts of Habersham and Lumpkin Counties in 1857. The section where the Winklers lived and many of the descendants live today is now in White County.

Thomas and Ester/Easter Winkler. I think there is some connection between Miles Allen Winkler (who married Sarah Jane Findley) and Thomas Winkler. I haven't yet figured out what that connection is. I know all the names of the children, when they were born, died and who they married, that Thomas and Ester/Easter had and there is no mention of any Miles Allen Winkler or his wife Sarah Jane Findley. At least not to my knowledge. I think you will find that your Miles Allen Winkler is the son of one of Thomas's siblings, which would make him a nephew not a son. The only Winkler that I know of who lived in DuckTown Tn, was the youngest of Thomas and Easter/Ester Winkler's children and that was Caroline Winkler who married John Withrow. Caroline was born in 1854, which I believe was after your Miles Allen Winkler's death. I believe that the parents of Thomas Winkler were Joseph and Catherine Fisher, and they can be found on the census records for either 1850/1860 living close to Thomas and Ester but in separate households and I believe with some of Thomas's siblings. I have not traced or learned how many siblings that Thomas had. There is many, many Winkler's floating around and it is very difficult to tell who belongs to who. June

Was wondering, since you're all talking about Winkler's in Tennessee if any of this might right a bell with anyone. I have been told that my great grandmother Cordelia Kilby b. 1866 GA d. 1910 TN had been previously married to a ? Winkler, which would have been prior to 1890. Cordelia m. my great grandfather sometime before 1890 to John Allen Ellis. I'm assuming they were married in Cherokee Co, NC as their first born Fonds Allen Ellis was born in Beaverdam, NC. Cordelia had a son from a previous marriage who's name was Arthur. He went by the Ellis name, but I'm told he was a Winkler. The story is that this Mr. Winkler and Cordelia had 2 children; a son "Arthur" and a daughter who's name I do not know. This Mr. Winkler ran off with the daughter and left Arthur with Cordelia and nobody ever heard from them again. I have pictures of Arthur and he does not look like my Ellis cousins. He was killed in a fight with one of his step-brothers in Coker Creek, TN. I've been trying to find out information on Cordelia and figured if I could make a connection with this so-called Mr. Winkler's family I might find out where she really came from, if in fact she was Indian, and why she ended up in NC and TN. Any help on this Winkler dilemma would be greatly appreciated. Sorry if this all seems so con
