.
Musgrave, William (deceased), who was one of the distinguished pioneers of Crawford County, was born in Wayne County, N.C., February 8, 1816, a son of John and Charity (Cox) Musgrave, the father born in North Carolina in 1758 and died in June 1824. The youngest son and sixth of his parents seven children, William, was left an orphan at eight years old, and was brought to Union County, Ill., by his brothers Josiah and John. Another brother, Caleb, had come to Union County four years earlier and William made his home with him until 1833, when he came to Crawford County with his brother John, and the two worked together as carpenters. In 1834 occurred the marriage of William Musgrave and Eliza Ann Cox, who was a native of Greene County, N.C., born January 17, 1816. They became the parents of nine children, five of whom grew to maturity: Sally Ann, Anna M., Jonathan K., George A. and Herriet. After marriage Mr. Musgrave began farming upon what was his homestead, which had been improved by John Snipes, and in time he became possessed of 500 acres of desirable farm land, but he later divided the greater portion of it among his children. Mr. and Mrs. Musgrave for years were consistent members of the Universalist Church.

Hugh Jamison resided 1820, Rutherford Co., TN. He purchased from Jack Dyer, June 1819 a plot of 125 acres and registered it on the 18th. In thefollowing year, 1820, he bought additional land from William Patterson, which was witnessed by Stephen White, his father-in-law. Both me n had abond on Augustus H. White, who was elected 1821 as a County Trustee. OnJanuary 26, 182 4, Mr. Jamison, Stephen W hite, and others were appointedto lay out a bypass from the Murfree sborough Road to Shelbyville. Mr. Jamison was sued by John L. Linch, but the suit was dropped and both men split the court costs November 20, 1830. Additional Bill of Sales to John Priett and Stokely White, brother-in-law.

Mr. Jamison enlisted into the military in the summer of 1836 in Capt. Wilson's Cavalry and served until the summer of 1837. Just before theSecond Seminole War commence, Jamison, under the command of General Coffee of Tennessee, took part in the Creek war that lasted from 1835 to1837 and was listed at the battles of Horseshoe Bend and Orleans. Mr.Jamison fought in the Second Seminole War of 1836 to 1842. Unlike the first, in the second engagement the Seminoles refused to leave the lands they gave up in the first War. In December of 1835, 110 soldiers weream bused and killed by the Seminoles. General Winfield Scott was ordered to Florida to take over the proceedings from Brig. Gen. Edmund Gaines, who was detached to Texas where he was expecting trouble along the frontier. But Gaines had raised a force, none-the-less, went to Florida with a 1000 men and nearly overrun but for one of Scott's reinforcementsthat came along in the nick of time. He returned to New Orleans claiming peace had been attained, but was quite wrong in that assessment. Scott made a go at it, but was eventually transferred and in the following six years three other commanders were placed and replaced as failures mounted to move the Seminoles. The only way to root out the tribes was a plan of extermination with 5,000 regulars and 20,000 short-term volunteers against some 1,000 Indians. As a result nearly 1500 militia lost their lives from battle and disease to move 3200 half-starved Seminoles west. Mr. Jamison was wounded in the neck and survived it.

Carol,
In your post to the Jamison Family Forum on Genealogy.com (1329) you
have an error concerning Isaac Peeler and Sophia Jamison. Isaac Peeler.
Isaac Peeler b 11 Sept 1829 was actually the son of Isaac Peeler b 23 May
1779 and Mary Gilkey b 23 Aug 1788. Isaac (1779) was married three timesto
Nancy Petty, Mary Gilkey and Annie Dill.
My source, the book "Some American Peelers and Their Descandants"
compiled and published by Jonnie Arnold Peeler in 1984.
The rest of your data on Isaac and Sophia Jamison Peeler, I confirm.
Nice file
Earl Peeler
