William Brown, born in Old Pendleton District, now Anderson County, SC, served in the War of 1812, for which he received bounty land in Missouri and his widow received a pension. Following his discharge in 1815, along with his father, his first wife, Bridget Murphy, and his siblings, he moved to Kentucky. By 1823, they were living in St. Francois Co, Missouri. William and Bridget had two sons, Murphy and Ezekiel, and a daughter Nancy, all born in Kentucky. Bridget died there, probably soon after the birth of Ezekiel in 1821. On 23 May 1824, William married Elizabeth Halstead in St. Francois County. They had four more children - Lemuel, Jane, Rebecca, and John Samuel. After living in St. Francois Co about five years, the family moved to Searcy Co, AR, staying about three years, then moving to southwest Missouri - Newton and then McDonald counties. During the Civil War, William & Elizabeth moved with their son John Samuel and his young family to Grayson Co, Texas.

William Brown's father was Samuel Brown, born about 1772 in South Carolina, died after the 1850 census in Missouri. Samuel's wife was Rebecca, but her surname is unknown and it isn't known if she was the mother of his children. Elizabeth Halstead Brown was the daughter of Lemuel Halstead and Nancy Burnham - both born in North Carolina. Lemuel and Nancy married in Davidson Co, TN, 9 Jul 1805.

and Eliza Young, and his wife, Margaret E. McDuffee (3 Nov 1852-2 April1920) daughter of
Eli McDuffee and Martha A. Thomason. Thomas and Margaret were both bornin Macon Co.
and are buried in the Will Cothron Cemetery.
Lambert Moore Cothron b. May 26, 1813 and resided in Smith County in thepart that
perhaps became Macon County. This picture ID by Michael Meador. Thispicture from
