New York Times, 1882 August 11.......THE LATE MRS. WILLIAMWARD.........Funeral services wil l be held over the remains of Mrs. JuliaGriswold Tyng Ward at the Church of the Holy Trinity , in Madison avenue, this morning. Mrs. Ward was the wife of William Ward, a banker and broker of this City, and daughter of the Rev. Stephen H. Tyng, D. D., by hisfirst wife, who was th e daughter of Protestant Episcopal Bishop Griswold,of Massachusetts. She was a sister of th e Rev. Dudley Tyng, who wasaccidentally killed in Philadelphia a few years ago, and was ahalf -sister of the Rev. Stephen H. Tyng, Jr. This is the third death thathas occurred in the fami ly of Dr. Tyng the elder within two weeks, thefirst death being that of his sister, Mrs. Marq uand, of Boston; thesecond of his son-in-law, the Rev. Mr. Homans, of Long Island, and thelas t of this daughter. For seven years prior to her death Mrs. Ward hadbeen confined to her be d by paralysis of the spine, and for the last fouryears she had been unable to change her pos ition without assistance.Though suffering severe pain during the greater portion of this time , shealways maintained a cheerful disposition, and from her extensive readingand remarkable c onversational powers, was able to afford constantentertainment to her own household, as wel l as to the many friends andacquaintances who visited her. She kept herself well posted in cu rrentliterature of all kinds, and scarcely a work of fiction by any importantauthor was issue d from the press that she did not read. On the morningbefore her death she began reading a ne w book, and only five minutesbefore she died she replied in answer to a question from one o f herattendants, that she felt comfortable. When not engaged in reading orconversation, she s pent her time in corresponding with her friends or inwriting articles for newspapers and maga zines. Mrs. Ward was the motherof two boys, one of whom is a practicing lawyer in Colorado an d the otheris engaged in business with his father in Broad street. She will beburied in the c hurchyard connected with St. Paul's Church in EastChester, which has been the burial place o f her husband's ancestors forthe last 200 years.
