First record of Lewis Noland in Rutherford Co. TN was the census of 1820. Other records are deeds, witness, commissioner, administrator, and a buyer at estate sales. These were from 1820-1834. In Nov 1834 he sold all his real estate to Pierce G. Noland.

Pitts, John (b. 6 JAN 1812, d. 8 FEB 1891)
Note: Assumed to be the Pitts buried in the Pitts Cemetery in the Lascassas Quadrangle. 1/10 of a mile north of Bushnell Creek Bridge on Hwy. 96. On the east side of Hwy. about 250 feet from road on wooded Knoll. The are 40 or more unmarked graves.

A John Pitts owned the land just south of the Matthew Pitts farm. It is assumed that they were brothers. This is recorded on deed book 24, page 472-34 and evident in the map of District No. 9.

In addition to John Pitts 66 (b. abt. 1794 who is believed to be one of Matthew Pitts, Sr. sons, there was also in this district William Pitts, 86 years old living with a sister Jennifer Watson. Both of her parents were from Tennessee.

Another John Pitts 25 (b. abt. 1855 in TN), married to Anna (b. abt. 1859). Both of their sets of parents were from Tennessee. They had a daughter Pearl born in April of 1880. There is records of a John Pitts who lived in the area during this period. John was born in Virginia and died in Woodbury as reported by Marvin Pitts of Knoxville, TN Jan 21, 1998. Following is a record of the information provided by Marvin until it can be linked into one or both of the Pitts' lines.

Pitts, Benjamin E. (b. ABT. 1824, d. ?)
Note: In the 1850 census Benja. F. Pitts 26 M Tenn & Mary Pitts 17 F Tenn. Benjamin is listed as a farmer. It is noteworthy that the Joseph B. & Wm. H. Rucker family from VA are nearby. Benjamin is buried in the cemetery just south of Pitts Lane a few hundred yards from the Boyd Cemetery.

WFT Vol 18 #1984 provides the descendants of Benjamin & Mary's daughter who married and moved to Texas.

Note: In the memory of Aunt Lell: "Fate Pitts, date of birth unknown, date of death unknown - married Ibbie Jones of Trimble (west Tennessee) date unknown - date of death unknown and later died there. Fate my be the Anderson Pitts born abt. 1846 as recorded to be 4 years old in 1850 census. However, in some accounts it appears as if Anderson may be called Andrew. The census information is given below to allow some comparison of names, dates, est. birth date, etc.
In the 1850 census the children of Matthew & Martha are given as:

Note: The last will and testimony of M. T. Pitts dated 13 October 1906 seems to be consistent with Mose Pitts in that it mentions the son Orman. Two sons are listed, Orman and M. B. Pitts along with his wife Beatrice who served as executrix of his will. Is Lula the Beatrice?
The will is witnessed by F. E Pitts and W. C. Bilko.

Pitts, Benjamin M. (b. 19 NOV 1847, d. 9 MAY 1928)
Note: Descendants of Benjamin were taken in part from WFT Vol. 12, #482
The grave site was still in good condition in the summer of 1998. An access road has been built for a new house directly in front of the small cemetery, however, easy access is given at the end of this road. The site is clearly visible from the Boyd Cemetery on Pitts Lane. Benjamin's father is buried on Compton Road at the Rucker-Pitts Cemetery about 4 miles to the west. His sister, Susan Ann is buried in the Boyd Cemetery nearby.

Note: The memorial next to Benjamin M. Pitts, 1847-1928, is Katie Z. Pitts with the dates 1857-1900. Also in the same Pitts Cemetery, 1/3 mile east from Highway 96. About 400 feet down farm lane from road in a little grove of cedar trees on the Clarence Higgins farm. Recorded in Nov. 1971.

Also buried there are George W. Zumbro, Mar. 30, 1818 - Aug. 29, 1905, Elvira C. Zumbro, Sept. 1, 1820 - Nov. 15, 1888. James A. Tarpley, ____, 1796, Jan 30. 1860. Two cedar markers and three other fieldstones.
