Note: George is said to have been a Baptist minister. Delores says that George was a great man of God, had pastored several churches over Tennessee and Churches in the Bedford Co., Shelbyville area. She knew him, heard him preach and upon retiring lived in Shelbyville. He and his lovely wife, died but not sure where they are buried. - Delores Compton Smith.
Note: May not be George's son, however, a grandson of Maggie and Frank Jarman.
He is a Baptist preacher in Knoxville, TN.
Note: Aunt Lell reported that Nathaniel and his brothers came to Rutherford Co., TN from Virginia.

Note: Lell Pitts Howse is the originator of the letter with genealogy information. The letter was written in September 1973 to Eddie Andrew Pitts' daughter Martha Pearl. Eddie was one of John Robert Pitts' sons. Aunt Lell, as she is known, was passing on to Martha Pearl her recollection of births/deaths & marriagesstarting with her Great Grandfather who would have been Matthew Pitts, Sr.
"Martha Pearl, your Grandmother Owen's mother was a Lee, Martha Lee. She was a relative of Robert E. Lee), and Martha Lee married E. A. McNeil. My great grandfather's name is unknown. Wife's name unknown. Their children: Matthew Pitts, born in Rutherford County, November 1820 died Dec. 19, 1885. he married Martha Nolen), date unknown, who died in 1891. Her father was Pierce Nolan, who married a Burnett. Grandpa Matthew Pitts had several brothers: John, Theophilus, Anderson, and sister , Nancy, who married a Mr. Doughtery. Matthew and Martha Pitts had 12 children".
Then she talks about her grandfather on the Owen side, Nathaniel Owen. His father was Thomas Owen and mother was Sally Stewart. He and two brothers, Stephen and Branch, came to Rutherford Country from Virginia and all their dates and children, etc. She called her mother Mary Annie Owen"
Then she talks about her Daddy John Robert Pitts and his 9 children and all their dates as well as their children and the dates. These have been incorporated into this record..
