Pitts, Fountain E. (b. 3 JUN 1869, d. 1939)
Note: The son of Mathew Pitts, Fountain E. Pitts, was apparently named after Fountain E. Pitts who married Martha Britt 14 Aug 1927. Fountain E. Pitts was a much used name in the area, probably because of a well known Methodist preacher recorded in Sumner Co.? There is also a Fountain E. Pitts Crane b. Aug 18, 1833. There was a F. E. Pitts who was a Methodist Preacher in Wilson Co., TN. This may be the reason so many Fountain E. Pitts followed. "Fount" and his name sakes that followed we active in Rutherford Co., politics until this day.

The following post on the internet might explain where some of the Pitts went
after the war between the states:

Telma Anijar Andersen on October 04, 1998

MO, TENN, KY --Pitts posted by Myra Hudson on August 24, 1998. I am a descendant of the Pitts family from Tennessee. My family immigrated to Brazil after the civil war. I have the following names:
Onidia Ives Pitts - born in 1873 in Para, died in Manaus 20 Sept 1905--Single.
Marvin Henry Pitts - died in Manaus, Amazon, 18 years old 23 Aug 1903-son of Fountain E. Pitts and Sarah B. Pitts.
Ida (Aida) Elvira Pitts - died in Manaus, 20 Jan 1908.
Affonso Pitts - son of Fountain (Affonson in Portuguese) died at the age of 47.

From the records of the First Baptist Church in Manaus:
Mary (Maria) Pitts - baptized in 17 Sept 1905.
Lillian Pitts - bapt. 3 March 1907.
Menie (Minnie?) Pitts - died 1 Aug 1907
Clarence (Clarencio) Pitts - bapt. 17 Sept. 1905.
Rev. Fountain Elliot Pitts visited Brazil in 1835.
Martha Pitts was one of the founders of the First Baptist Church in Manaus, Amazon, she was the widow of Dr. Josiah Pitts.

Santa Barbara in the state of Sao Paulo is the location of the rest of the confederate families that immigrated to Brazil.

The following books have been written by Betty Antunes de Oliveira she is the descendant of Elder Robert P. Thomas.

Cemiterio do Campo - Cemetery of Campos - has all the names of the families that are buried at this location. Can be found at the Genealogical Library for the LDS Church. North American Immigration to Brazil - Tombstone Records - Santa Barbara D'Oeste - Sao Paulo State. Movimento de Norte Americanos no Porto do Rio de Janeiro - The movement of the north americans in the Port of Rio de Janeiro - 1865 to 1890.

This information is from a letter I received from this lady, she has done extensive research into the families and what has happened to the descendants of these families.
Death: 1939 Evergreen Cemetery, Rutherford Co., Murfreeboro, TN

Pitts, Andrew J. (b. 21 AUG 1872, d. ?)
Note: Appears as A. J. Pitts in settlement of Martha A. Pitts property. The information here in unclear at this time. Andrew's wife may have been a Bennet. This should be clarified within 2 or 3 months considering recent contact with William A. Pitts.

Lorance, Sarah (b. ABT. 1820, d. ?)
Note: Because of the 1850 census and Rogers being in the same household. James sister was probably married to a Rogers or could this be his sisters mother-in-law since Martha was only 10 years older than James so being a sister would be much more logical than a mother-in-law.

Jamison, James Robert (b. 12 APR 1883, d. 25 MAR 1958)
Note: Rutherford Co., Marriage Records indicate:
Robert Jamison obtained a license to marry Miss Rosetta Helton on 22 December 1906 witnessed by Genoa Bowling. This matches Jean Helton Young's records indicating Zettie Rosa Helton Jamison married Robert Jamison b. 4/12/1882. It is therefore assumed that Zettie Rosa Helton is Rosetta Helton.

Genoa Bowling got license to marry Era Brown Brasher on same day witnessed by Robert Jamison.

Brandon, Esther S. (b. 18 DEC 1851, d. 12 SEP 1905)
Note: See Vol. 1 # 596 for Brandon Family. Relations to the Heltons & Pitts.
Easter/Esther S. Brandon's middle initial from grave stone. Some records may indicate a "G" rather than an "S". This may be incorrect because the grave stone of her infant daughter who died in 1895 records Carrie A. Jamison dau. of Andrew & E. S. Jamison Oct. 9, 1894 Mar. 31, 1895.
It's also interesting to note that the monument states: "Easter S. Brandon wife of Andrew Jamison" Other stones in the cemetery are made with wife's full name and their husband which make the records nice. The name has been verified by this researcher on the stone as also recorded on page 92 of the records created by the Rutherford Co., Historical Society for cemetery No. 114 by Steve Cates in 1969.
Death: 12 SEP 1905 Readyville and buried in Jamison Cemetery near Knob
