Wilson, Thomas Smith (b. 25 JUL 1836, d. 7 NOV 1900)
Note: Information form RootsWeb.com Vance's Genealogy:
He came to Springfield, Greene Co, MO in 1855. He was appointed 2nd Lt. in U.S. Marine Corps on 13 Dec 1857 and served on theFrigate Congress of the Brazil Squadron. He served on the frigate, Sabine, flagship of the expedition to Paraguay. He traveled 800 miles up the Paraguay River. His next assignment he traveled again to South America , returning home in 1861. He resigned his commission and was arrested and imprisoned three months at Fort La Fayette, New York Harbor, and two months at Fort Warren, Boston Harbor, where he was exchanged as a prisoner of war. He was a captain in the Confederate States Marine Corps early in 1862. He was a staunch Democrat and was elected Greene Co, MO, recorder of deeds. When he died, he lived on the Bolivar Road.
