Morris, Ola Sue (b. 23 NOV 1902, d. 8 MAY 1989)
Note: Obituary - McMinnville Stard Obituaries, 11 May 1989 - Warren Co., TN

Ola Nabors Vervilla native Mrs. Ola Sue Morris Nabors, 86, died of an extended illness at 3 p.m. Monday in Sumner Memorial Hospital, Gallatin. The retired farmer and school teacher was a member of Morrison United Methodist Church, charter member of Pleasant Knoll Home Demonstration Club and founder and charter member of Jacksboro HDC. The widow of James Tony Nabors, she was a daughter of the late William Elijah and Martha Lou Swann Morris. She is survived by son William Morris Nabors of Hixson, daughter Marganna Downs of Gallatin, sisters Nettie J. Chisam of Dallas, Texas, and Ruby Hodge of Rockledge, FL., nine grandchildren, nine great grandchildren and three great great grandchildren. Delwyn Fryer will conduct services in High Funeral Home Chapel at 11 a.m. Thursday, with interment in Bascom Cemetery.

Momma Ola was one of the best cooks in the territory. She made one of the best pecan pies I have ever had the pleasure to eat. I remember as a child, we visited one to two times a year. Every time we visited, she always had me one of her famous pecan pies cooling on the stove. It didn't matter what time we arrived, she always cut me a piece right then. She had a pull out cutting board built into her cabinets. She would pull it out and I would set on the stool/chair at that cutting board and eat my pie. I, not being a nut eater, would always pick all the nuts off (she always used whole nuts because of this), lick the "good stuff" off the bottoms and lay them aside. For years I gave my nuts to my father to eat. On one of my latter trips to see him before he passed away, my step mother Pat had bought me a pecan pie; it is common knowledge in our family how I love them. After dinner, daddy and I had us a piece. Well, as usual, I picked & licked my nuts and laid them aside. After my daddy was done with his pie I asked him why he hadn't eaten the nuts I had laid aside for him. He replied, "I don't wantem after you licked all over them". I found this quite comical and responded, "Why, you've ate them that way for years!" - Sheila

THE WINKLER FAMILY

John Winkler settled on the farm now owned by J. B. Parks, of Route 3, Red Boiling Springs, some time prior to the Civil War. His second wife was Jane Crawford, of the Gamaliel Crawford family. She had one child by John Winkler, the baby dying in infancy.

John Winkler and his third wife had three children, Mary, Emily and Cynthia Winkler. Emily married Anderson Carver, and became the mother of Alford, Ellie, and Mollie Carver. Later Anderson shot and killed his wife then himself. Alford Carver married Fleetie Driver and later Nettie Brandon. Ellie married Levi Parkes and left Tennessee. Mollie married Will Taylor.

Cynthia married Howard Harlin and became the mother of: Cicero Harlin, married Emily Creek; Joe Harlin, married Susan Russell; Lola Mae, died as a small child; Maude Harlin, married first to Bedford York; and later a Whitehead and removed to Texas; Avery Harlin, married Addie Hiett; and Hallie Harlin, who went to Texas and married, but the husband's name is not known to the writer.

Jane Crawford died about 1912 and is buried at Gamaliel. I do not know what became of Mary Carver. She most probably married and left Tennessee. It should have been stated above that Jane Winkler raised the three children of Emily Winkler Carver following the tragic deaths of their parents. Jane Winkler was a great aunt to the writer's father.
