Jamison William [Male] b. ABT. 1780 Woodford, KY - d. BEF. 1850 Rutherford Co., Tennessee after 1840
Change: 17 JAN 2013

1281
William Jameson was an early settler of Kentucky about 1785 and was afarmer by occupation. H e also engaged in the practice of medicine, according to information given to Goodspeed's Hist ory of Northw estArkansas by James Green Rodgers

William Jamison/Jameson is reported in LDS Disc #3 and #18. The laterrecord indicates his bi rth to between 1770 & 1780 vs Abt. 1775. This isimportant because of the reported births o f his parents. Thisinconsistency is the reason the assumption given below. The author makesn o claim of the validity of this link due to this discrepancy. If youhave proof please conta ct me. The Abt. 1775 wa s supplied by SherylBagwell of West Valley City, UT while disc # info rmation is from Denzil &Barbara Garrison of Bartlesville, OK.

Some researchers have assumed that this William is the father for ThomasAllen Jamison of Ruth erford Co., TN, my ancestor, however, of all of thelinks in the Jamison genealogy, the Willia m Jamison li nk has lessavailable information and is the most SUSPECT of ERROR since I have n otexamined the will of William Caldwell as yet nor any other supportingevidence.

According to familysearch.org William & Nancy Kirkham Jamison had threechildren
by the family tree submitted by tfonnesbeck3753734 & swkirkham1321587:
James 1810 KY (Jameson)
Martha 1800 KY (Jameson) d. 1853 in Haywood Co., TN
Rootsweb.ancestry adds two more children:
Robert Jamison 1820 m. Narcissa Espy
William Jamison 15 Jan 1818 m. Rebecca Brown & Nancy Bell.

The Thomas Allen Jamison trail ends at the Jamison Cemetery near PilotKnob and the 1840 Cen sus records which announces his arrival into WilsonCo. The following information was obtain ed from Lule ne Dill Rushing whois noted for her knowledge of the families of Rutherford Co . andassociated history. Notes of Mrs. Elvis Rushing done in 1981. Thisresearcher wished th at the connection with th e William Downs Jamisoncould be verified but many dates and the con nection has not beensubstanuated.

Other Jamison information is given below. Some may have no connection tothis branch of the R utherford Co., Jamisons who settled near the Knobnear Readyville, TN. It is listed here as ba ckground res earch andnothing more. Take it or leave it but if you can prove any of it I woul dbe delighted to have access to your theories. If you just have atheory, that's fine too si nce most of this genealo gy is based on recordsthat often are more suspect than verbal accoun ts or books who have accessto the same information we do.

Vol #2 of FTM Marriage Index for Woodford Co., KY has:
September 29, 1796 Jameson, Wm - Nancy Kirkham
October 3, 1796 Jamison, William - Nancy Kirkham

One may expect that these are the same people. The Jameson/Jamison isthe question.

One of the census records indicate that Thomas Allen was born inKentucky. Another mention s Ohio so no clear decision can be made. Thegrandson of Thomas Allen Jamison indicates tha t Thomas Allen w as
born in Kentucy on his father's death certificate.

If the choice is not William, then currently there are no other options. The link establishe d between the Hugh/Henry Jamisons and the Thomas AllenJamisons is clearly the key that I hav e searched.

William is found in the will of William Caldwell and Jane Downs Jamisonbut no other record i s available. The "Maternal Jamison Spain" papersdo not mention William.

The family of William Jamison and Nancy Green was researched by Mrs.Elvis Rushing of Murfree sboro, TN dated March 1981. She reported themliving in Kentucky, Warren Co., Roberson Co., T N near Spring field in the1830 Census. He was a Doctor and Farmer.

These children were living in Tennessee in 1850 Census. Nancy Jamison was70 and living in a h ousehold of James Jamison who is the right age to bethe son of Nancy. Could the family hav e come to Tenn essee after thefather died? Sarah was a cripple and was the 2nd wife of Haill e?Saunders. Thomas Allen is also the current age to be her son but he sayshe was born in Ohi o. (Other Census record sa ys he was born in Kentucky -note by Joe Jamison).

A William Jamison is in the 1830 Census of Robertson County near theRogers Family. William Ja mison was in the 1840 Census of Rutherford Co.It is reported that William's father's will i n the court h ouse there. Some have assumed that William's father is Henry Down Jamison sinc e someof the records examined suggest family relationships.

Henry Downs Jamison, of Rutherford Co., has had his family researched. His ancestor was Willia m Caldwell Jamison who had a son Henry Down whomarried Elizabeth Beaty daughter of William Be aty, Revolut ionary WarSoldier and lived heading on Franklin Road. Mr. Henry Downs reared his family in Rutherford Co. and most were married here. They are known to bekin to Thomas Allen' s descendents. In the J amison History, in LineboughLibrary in the Tennessee Room, Henry's b rother William was mentioned inthe will and they found no further record.

Henry Down, was born in GA., and moved to Montgomery Co., Tennessee nearClarksville, TN. Th is is not far from the Kentucky border.

If William's wife was Nancy, she came here with her children and she wasthe oldest Jamison i n Rutherford Co.

Martha Roger's son James 23 years in 1850 and was at the household ofSarah Jamison's husband , Hailey Saunders, Sept. 11, 1850 but Sept. 3,1850 he was with his mother in the household o f James Jami son and hisgrandmother Nancy. His father is dead. That shows a relationshipbe tween the families.

The 1850 Census record of the Flemings District recorded 13 Sept 1850 thefollowing:
#436 (Farmer)
James Jamison 40 M KY
Wm. A. Jamison 10 M Tenn
Sarah Jamison 7 F Tenn
Robert (Farmer) 30 M Tenn
Nancy Jamison 70 F KY
Martha Rogers 50 F KY
James Rogers 23 M KY
Sarah Rogers 15 F Tenn

James is head of the household with no wife shown. William and Sarah areson & daughter. Rob ert is probably his brother while Nancy his Mother.Martha Rogers could be his wife's mother a nd her sibli ngs James andSarah. James would have been born in 1810 and Robert 1820.
