Post from Clarissa on GenForum Nov 28, 2001:

Frank Jamison, my grandfather, was the first in the family to be diagnosed with von Willebrands. He'd had frequent nosebleeds and such all his life, but didn't develop more serious bleeding problems until he was already at an advanced age. It was a hepatitis infection, from the many blood and cryo infusions he was getting every few weeks to control bleeds, that eventually killed him. When he was diagnosed, the entire family was tested (all those who were willing, anyway), and it was found in more than half of us! Some have always shown signs, like nosebleeds, and deep ugly purple bruises with no recollection of the injuries that caused them, and the women had an especially difficult time, as you can imagine. This is really what got me interested in the family tree in the first place. We were such a mess, I was sure we'd had one too many first-cousin marriages, LOL. But if there's no history in any of the other Jamisons, then it must have begun in the Hammond side. I understand from what my grandmother said, that Lillian had frequent nosebleeds. And I received an email response to a similar post in the Hammond GenForum, from a lady descended from Davis Broughton and Nancy Hammond of Knox Co., KY, who also has vWD. Do you know anything else about the Hammonds, or about an Indian ancestry among them? That would also seem to be a connection between Nancy Hammond and Lillian. Although, there was another local Jamison with the disease as well; I think his name was George Jamison, and he was related to my grandfather Frank, but I'm not sure how.
