Thorval (Mike) Gray of Lostine, died Aug 8, 1992, at Wallowa MemorialHospital.
Mr. Gray was born May 14, 1907, at Imbler, the son of Charlie andSally(Hamilton) Gray, homest eaders in the Lower Cove area. He marriedVisa Hodge of Enterprise on Dec. 4, 1926, in La Gran de. The newl ywedshad a late honeymoon camping in a log cabin situated up the South Fork ofth e Lostine. During this long winter of 1927-1928, Mike ran a trap linefor martin and fox. Mr . Gray was a lumberman for Shelvin-Hixon Mill inBend, Boise Cascade Mill in Joseph and Bate M ill in Wallowa. In 1948 heand his wife purchased a farm on Upper Prairie Creek. Subsequently , theyraised white face cattle and she ep on the home place near Lostine for 36years. He wa s a colorful musician who played folk music on the mandolinand sang in his clear tenor voice . He and his wife took pack trips onhorse back up to the high lakes in the Blue Mountains. H e loved theSourth Fork of the Lostine River and the scream of the mountain
cougar and the lonesome call of the loon.
Survivors include his wife, Visa, of Enterprise; his daughter, OrmaMiller of La Grande; grand -daughter, Suellen Roley of Portland; brother,Pete Gray of Sutherlin; and by his nieces and n ephews who w ere hishunting, fishing partners and huckleberrying friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, one brother, Arell, and hissiters, Lila Brown and Wi lla Crockett.
Funeral services were held Wednesday, Aug. 12, at the Bollman FuneralHome with vault intermen t following in the Enterprise Cemetery. Memorialsin his memory may be make to the Alzheimer s Association in care of theBollman Funeral Home, 315 West Main, Enterprise.

Listed as the Great grandparents of Yauchey Leah Bridwell Chpaman. Theyare
buried at Summerville.
He is mentioned in the History of Lower Scioto Valley as being William of
Oregon and listed as a child of John and Catherine Hamilton. His family
originally came to Ohio in 1792. The History of Union and Wallowa Co.
gave his death. It did not give place.
!Marriage is from the marriage records of Scioto Co. Ohio. William had a
brother Charles Wesley who married Mary E. Byers, Aug. 26, 1847. Reuban
Hamilton signed for that marriage. William and Wesley both came to Oregon
