Phyllis Petty Gunkel said was not sure why her grandparents left
Tennessee and headed west but
stayed after the war ended in 1864 and expected it was to start a new
life out west. Five of their
children were born in Tennessee. James joined the army when he was 14
years old and later got
married when they both were 18 in December of 1895. They traveled to
Sedalia, MO by ox cart
probably to join a wagon train west since Sedalia was their starting
point. Some of the children
moved on west after they were grown. Uncle Tom was in Texas punching
cows in 1913. He
married Sally Brandon who was related to Margaret and they settled in
Phoenix, Arizona.
