Sites (Sitz) query.(Nellie Parlee Sitz m. Benton Winkler Nov. 7 1879 in Franklin Co., TN).
I have found some info from a relative (not proven just "remembered"). Winkler Thomas [Male] b. 1794 NC - d. 17 MAR 1890 Georgia

I am a descendant of Miles Allen Winkler B. 1826 Burke Co. NC who married Waitsel or Waity Cain. Believe his father was Thomas Winkler b. 1794 in NC and mother was Easter b. 1810 in NC but seeking confirmation and information on Thomas and Easter. I have information on Miles Allen's family. I am interested in whatever you might have. Also, I am very interested in the information on the White County Family History Book.

Thomas and Ester/Easter Winkler. I think there is some connection between Miles Allen Winkler (who married Sarah Jane Findley) and Thomas Winkler. I haven't yet figured out what that connection is. Miles Allen Winkler supposedly died in Ducktown, TN also. I figured that he must have had family there. Does your information branch out at all? Or do you just have info on your direct line?

I know all the names of the children, when they were born, died and who they married, that Thomas and Ester/Easter had and there is no mention of any Miles Allen Winkler or his wife Sarah Jane Findley. At least not to my knowledge. I think you will find that your Miles Allen Winkler is the son of one of Thomas's siblings, which would make him a nephew not a son. The only Winkler that I know of who lived in DuckTown Tn, was the youngest of Thomas and Easter/Ester Winkler's children and that was Caroline Winkler who married John Withrow. Caroline was born in 1854, which I believe was after your Miles Allen Winkler's death. I believe that the parents of Thomas Winkler were Joseph and Catherine Fisher, and they can be found on the census records for either 1850/1860 living close to Thomas and Ester but in separate households and I believe with some of Thomas's siblings. I have not traced or learned how many siblings that Thomas had. There is many, many Winkler's floating around and it is very difficult to tell who belongs to who. June

Kirby Lucinday Cordelia [Female] b. 1866 Gainsville, Hall Co., GA - d. 1910 TN

Was wondering, since you're all talking about Winkler's in Tennessee if any of this might right a bell with anyone. I have been told that my great grandmother Cordelia Kilby b. 1866 GA d. 1910 TN had been previously married to a ? Winkler, which would have been prior to 1890. Cordelia m. my great grandfather sometime before 1890 to John Allen Ellis. I'm assuming they were married in Cherokee Co, NC as their first born Fonds Allen Ellis was born in Beaverdam, NC. Cordelia had a son from a previous marriage who's name was Arthur. He went by the Ellis name, but I'm told he was a Winkler. The story is that this Mr. Winkler and Cordelia had 2 children; a son "Arthur" and a daughter who's name I do not know. This Mr. Winkler ran off with the daughter and left Arthur with Cordelia and nobody ever heard from them again. I have pictures of Arthur and he does not look like my Ellis cousins. He was killed in a fight with one of his step-brothers in Coker Creek, TN. I've been trying to find out information on Cordelia and figured if I could make a connection with this so-called Mr. Winkler's family I might find out where she really came from, if in fact she was Indian, and why she ended up in NC and TN. Any help on this Winkler dilemma would be greatly appreciated. Sorry if this all seems so con

Ellis John A. [Male]

Anderson J. Winkler married my great grandmother Cordelia (also goes by Lucinda Cordelia; Lucinday Cordelay; Delia and Dulcy) Kilby. They were married on 6 May 1883 in Cherokee Co., NC. I know they had a son Arthur, but there was also a daughter born to this union, before he ran off with the daughter and left Arthur to be raised by his mother Cordelia. Cordelia later married John A. Ellis sometime between 1888-1890 we think in NC, but they raised their family in Tennessee (Monroe Co).

Bird George Marshall [Male] b. 1 JAN 1844 Crawfordville, Taliaferro Co., GA - d. 25 AUG 1906 Big Cove, Madison Co., AL

Patriarch of Madison County Bird Family

George Marshall Bird was born into the grand southern lifestyle of pre-Civl War Georgian wealth on January 1, 1844, in Crawfordville, Georgia (Taliaferro County), to Dr. George Lee Bird and the former Miss Salina Chivers.

George married Martha S. Clark, daughter of William & Mary Clark, prior to 1870, presumably in or near Walker County, Georgia, where George settled following the close of the Civil War. To this union was born eleven children, only nine of whom survived infancy - John William, Mary Selina (Griffitts), Claude Alexander, Matilda Lane (Bunch/Winkler), George Lee, Eliza Ann, Maude (McPeters), Joseph Clark, and Buford Etheldred.

George and his family left Walker County around 1894, to explore the possiblities of a better life out west; however, the were met with continued unfortune there and decided to return to their native Georgia around the turn of the century. Again, misfortune altered their plans, and they decided to remain in Madison County, settling in the Big Cove Community in 1904.

George Marshall Bird died August 25, 1906, in Big Cove, and was laid to rest in the Campground Cemetery. A tombstone marked "BIRD" marks the graves of Bird and his wife, who followed him in death in 1906. The stone was carved by their son-in-law, Dick McPeters, more than 100 years ago.
