May 30, 1927 - September 16, 2013

MORGAN, TRAVIS E., M.D. -age 86, of Knoxville passed away peacefully in his home on Monday, September 16, 2013. He was widely known for his stern countenance, dry wit, and ever-present bow tie. Travis was the last of five sons born to Clarence and Blanche Morgan. They lived on a small hillside farm in very rural Trousdale County where they raised tobacco.

His life was the American Dream with very humble beginnings and a remarkable career following his 8 year attendance in a one-room school house. At age six, he decided to become a doctor and worked diligently to achieve that goal. He graduated from Hartsville High School in 1945 after holding many leadership positions and receiving honors including Salutatorian and Most Likely to Succeed.

Immediately following, Travis served with the Fifth Air Force Occupation of Japan stationed in Nagoya and was honorably discharged with the rank of Staff Seargent. He entered the University of Tennessee in 1948, completed his pre-medical studies, then entered U.T. Medical School in Memphis, where he graduated in 1952. Training continued in hospitals in Memphis; Lewisburg, TN; and Baton Rouge, LA. His residency in Urology was completed in 1959 at Tulane Charity Hospital in New Orleans, LA.

Travis returned to Knoxville where he practiced Urology until he retired from medical practice in 1992. He was the senior founding partner of Urology Consultants of Knoxville. He and his beloved wife of 61 years, Margaret Wallace Morgan ("Margie") of Powell, TN had an exceptional marriage which began in December, 1952 and they raised their three children in Knoxville. Travis served as President of Knoxville Academy of Medicine, Chief of Staff at St. Mary's Medical Center, and Chairman of the Advisory Board for St. Mary's. He was a member of the Knoxville Academy of Medicine, Tennessee Medical Society, Southern Medical Society, and American Board of Urology. Travis was a long-term member of The Episcopal Church of the Ascension and served in various leadership roles including two terms as Junior and Senior Warden, Co-Chairman of the building committee for the present church building, and the Search Committees for rectors.

His personal passions were gardening and traveling. Travis served as President of The Tennessee Rose Society and was a member of the American Orchid Society for years. Travis grew award-winning roses and orchids at his home. He and his wife Margie ultimately visited approximately 60 foreign countries and all 50 states in the USA.

Travis leaves his wife Margie and children: Melissa M. Hutcheson (Rusty) and Travis E. Morgan, Jr. ("Chip"), all of Knoxville. He was preceded in death by his son Matthew W. Morgan (Patty) of Knoxville. His grandchildren are Ralph K. Hutcheson, III ("Kit") of Memphis, Morgan C. Hutcheson, Margaret K. Hutcheson ("Katy"), and Ty S. Morgan, all of Knoxville.
