Read at Cecil's Funeral:
The Pryor family would like to express our appreciation for the love andcomfort you have best owed upon us this past week. During Cecil's life,he unselfishly lavished his love upon all o f us, which made it very easyto return that love. Not one member of our family had the sligh testdoubt about his love and care for us and our souls. He made each of usfeel special and o f value and we knew his desire for our eternal life.Over the past few days, everyone we've sp oken to, who has known him, hasexpressed similar comments about him. He was a very special p erson. Hewas a true Christian; on e who achieved a Christ likeness, which was anexample to u s all. As far as it is possible for a human being to do so,we believe that by his example C ecil gave us a perfect understanding ofthe gra cious, accepting love that God our Heavenly Fa ther extends to allhis children.
Dearest Cecil,
thou hast left us,
Thy sweet smile no more we see,
The sweet voice no more can cheer us,
The profound sermons will no more stir us,
And no more WA4YQC
Cecil, we mourn for thee.
Yes, Bright angels quickly bore him
Upward, heavenward, home to God,
While we weeping, brokenhearted,
You are in the sunshine of tomorrow.
You left us when we least supposed,
To cross over Jordan's wave.
But we must not God's will oppose,
You are in a far better place.
Farewell, Cecil, thou art at rest,
And so forevermore will be;
Your life a sermon
Full of example and love.
Thou are not forgotten, Cecil,
As long as life and memory last
We will remember thee.

Notes for THOMAS COLONEL GODWIN from genforum genealoogy:
Thomas GODWIN was granted land in Nansemond at Chuckatuck in 1655 and a number of times, later, more land was granted in that county and in Isle of Wight County. He was a Burgess several times, served as Sheriff, and was a justice and coroner when he died in 1678. His home was called Old Castle. His will began, "I Thomas GODWIN, of Nansemond county, Dent'l,". It gave his son, Edmund, land and slaves. Daughter Elizabeth got one slave. No slaves were given to son, Thomas GODWIN., who was executor.(The Virginia Magazine, Vol. V, p.199.)
"In 1663 the General Assembly rewarded John Pitt, of Isle of Wight county, for building a vessel of twenty-three tons. In 1680 the appraisement of Col. Bridger's estate mentions a sloop that will carry twenty-eight tons. In 1686, Thomas Godwin, by will, leaves to his wife three horses and her proportion of a sloop not yet appraised. And many other wills of like tenor are recorded, showing that many of the residents of this county owned their own vessels".
There is a record in the Isle of Wight deed books as noted in the abstracts book in the Hampton Library stateing that "(p.100) 17 Jan 1708...Samuel Forment and wife, Joyce Forment, of Chuckatuck Parish in Nansemond County to Col. Thomas Godwin and his son, William Godwin, of the same....1 acre in the lower parish of Isle of Wight (being part of the land I now live on) on the main run of Chuckatuck Creek at Godwins Dam with 1/2 acre on each side of the swamp. Capt James Webb has Power of Attorney. A further record in [Wills and Administrations of Isle of Wight County, VA, 1647-1800, by Blanch Adams Chapman] pg 69 notes: "Webb, james: By will appointed his relict Elizabeth, his Extx. Elizabeth Webb ordained her father, Colonel Thomas Godwin her lawful attorney, who qualified. Feb 17, 1675. Recoreded Mar 15, 1675/76. Sec, Col Thomas Godwin, Jeremiah Exum. pg 39
