Doc Winkler became a pharmacist. On one occasion he decided the grass wasgreener out west fo r his trade so he pack up his family and went to Eli,Nevada. The town was located in a dee p valley betwee n two ridges. Therewere mines in the hill that supported the workers in the t own. He saidthe drug store had several stot machines that the customers had to passon thei r way in and likewise on the way out. He said the the owner wasable to pay his rent totall y with the revenue from the gamblingmachines. The streets were very muddy and the side walk s were built uphigh so the people could ke ep clear of the streets and the mud. Theystaye d there was only 4 days and decided to move back to Tennessee.

Dr. Winkler was a graduateof the Memphis School of Pharmacy and worked until he re tired in 1996 atthe age of 83. Dr. Winkler and his wif e Delcie owned their own drugstore i n Lebanon for 20 years from 1956 to 1976 when he sold his store.He was a member of the Mapl e Hill Church of Christ, and of the SportsmanClub.
