He was born in Westmoreland on Aug 8, 1939, the son of the late James Delbert Meador and Erma Akin Meador.
In addition to his mother, he is survived by his wife Rebecca Smith Meador, two sons, Michael Graves of Gallatin and Chris Meador of Westmoreland, a daughter Vickie Lynn Clark of Lafayette; two brothers, W. L. Meador and Michael Meador, both of Westmoreland, one sister, Jewel Hollis Cothron of Lafayette and two grandchildren.

These are the children of Daniel and Martha: Lula B., Robert F., Bessie, Sarah, William, Carrie, Callie, Sally, Courtney and Ollie.

FIRST MACON COUNTIAN BROUGHT TO NATIVE SOIL
The first soldier of World War II is to be brought back to his native land for burial was S/Sgt Fred Vance Cothron whose mortal remains were returned to Gallatin last Thursday after a trip of nearly 4,000 miles from his first burial place in France. The casket bearing his body was taken to the funeral home at Hartsville on Thursday night. On Friday afternoon, the body was brought to the home of the parents, Mr. and Mrs. Elisha Cothron on Route 1, Lafayette, Tenn., near the Gap of the Ridge.
After remaining in the home one night, the sleeping dust was taken to Eulia where funeral services were held on Saturday by Elder F. W. Lambert. Then following a military burial with the Veterans of Foreign Wars, and the American Legion making the burial. Buck Harris was in special charge of the military honors shown the death with a salute fired over his grave. The sermon and the work of the ex-servicemen were beautifully done and were very impressive.
Young Cothron was born February 26, 1922 and entered the Army in September 1942, training at Fort Sam Houston in Texas, and later being sent to Camp McCoy, Wisconsin. He left for service in Europe, landing in Ireland on October 1943 and went at once to the front. He took part in the invasion of Normandy, and was killed in action on July 28, 1944.
S/Sgt Cothron attended school at Pisgah, and later put in some time in the Lafayette High School. He was loved by all who knew him, having a pleasant smile and friendly ways that attracted friends everywhere, both as a civilian and as a soldier. He was of excellent character and was a moral young man. Judging from the letters written to his parents and others, had made peace with his God. He was a good soldier who gave all he had for his country.
In addition to his parents, he leaves four brothers, Howard, Carl, Harold and Donnie, all of the Gap of the Ridge section; two sisters, Mrs. Ruth Sloan of Route 2, Westmoreland; and Mrs. W. B. Key of Portland and a 92 year old grandmother, Mrs. Susan Vance, who resides with the Cothron family. He left also a host of other relatives and friends who regret his early and tragic death, which was not in vain.

MS. RUTH COTHRON SLOAN, age 83 of Lafayette, Tennessee passed away June 16, 2011 at Sumner Regional Medical Center in Gallatin, Tennessee.
Funeral Services for Ms. Ruth Cothron Sloan were conducted on Saturday, June 18, at 2 p.m. from the Chapel of the Alexander Funeral Home with Reverend Guthrie Gregory and Brother Jerry Gammon officiating. Brian Carr, Shane Nichols, Billy Brawner, Troy Cothron, Fred Cothron, and Judson Clark served as Pallbearers. Interment followed in the Eulia Cemetery.
Ruth was born on July 22, 1927 in Macon County, Tennessee to the late Elisha Clay and Susan Vance Cothron. She was one of six children born to this union.
In 1944, she was married to Cecil Ray Sloan, sharing twenty-six years together and raising two daughters. Cecil Ray preceded her in death on November 12, 1970.
Besides her husband and parents; daughter, Marjorie Carr, grandson, Jeff Carr, brothers, Fred V. Cothron, Howard Cothron, and Carl Cothron, and a half-sister, Lassie Key, also preceded her in death.
She was employed by C. & C. Sportswear in Westmoreland, working there for several years until she retired in 1990.
Ruth spent most of her time with her children and grandchildren; they were her life. She was a very quiet and laid back person. She mostly enjoyed staying at home and watching her favorite television shows.
She was of the General Baptist Belief. Ruth will be greatly missed by her family and friends.
Ruth is survived by: daughter, Shirley (Mike) Nichols, brothers, Donnie (Maureen) Cothron all of Lafayette, TN, and Harold Gene Cothron of Hartsville, TN, grandchildren, Brian Carr of Lafayette, TN, Kim (Elton) Mathews of Hartsville, TN, Shane (Tammy) Nichols, and Shanda (Billy) Brawner all of Lafayette, TN, seven great-grandchildren, one great great-grandchild, and several nieces and nephews, also survive.

Drury B. Cothron, aged 79 years, a leading farmer of the Pleasant Valley section of the county, died at three twenty o'clock Saturday afternoon at the home of his son, Lathard Cothron. Death was attributed to an attack of pneumonia, with complications. His wife, the former Miss Ada Sullivan, preceded her husband in death 18 years ago. He is survived by two sons, the other being Charlie C. Cothron, of the Cedar Bluff section, two daughters, Mrs. Jodie Marshall, of near Hartsville; and Mrs. Emma McMurtry, of Castalian Springs; ten grandchildren, five great-grandchildren, one brother Daily Cothron of the Green Grove section; and a sister, Miss Vangie Cothron, of the Castalian Springs section.

The remains were laid to rest in Pleasant Valley Cemetery, Sunday afternoon about three o'clock, following funeral services conducted by Elder Calvin Gregory, assisted by the Rev. T. R. Poole. The deceased was a good man and had been a member of Hillsdale Baptist Church for a number of years. He was the son of Charlie and Dora Linville Cothron. and was a native of the county, spending most of his life in the vicinity of Cedar Bluff. He was a descendant of Robert Cothron, who came to Tennessee in pioneer days, emigrating from White County, North Carolina. He is a relative of the numerous Cothron family of this and adjoining counties.

He was past president of the Madison Lions Club, past member of the Madison Elks Lodge # 2473, Member of the TSSAA, past member of the Mid-Tennessee Umpires Association, past member of the Hendersonville Umpires Association and coached girls softball in Hendersonville for many years.
He is survived by his wife, Shirley White Sloan; a son, Kevin Vance Sloan; a brother, Earl Dean Sloan of Madison; sisters Ruth Clark of Hartsville, Sue Williams of Donelson, Kathleen Christian of Westmoreland and Peggy Freeman of LaFayette.

As a young boy, Ronnie enjoyed playing football in high school; he graduated with the Class of 1964. He was employed by Columbia Gulf for thirty-four years as a welder, before retiring in 1999. Ronnie worked most of his life, but took up hunting and fishing with his neighbors and grandson, after retiring. He enjoyed cooking and sitting back watching football. Ronnie was just a country boy and a simply man, that loved his family and cherished the time he had with his grandson, Austin. He will be missed by all who knew and loved him.

Individuals : Meador William Debow 'Dock'
William Meador was licensed by the Mt.Union Association of General Baptist in 1878, at the third session which was held at Eulia Church, and was ordained to the full work of the ministry on August 17, 1884.
Rev. Meador served the Association in the following capacities: Moderator in 1893, Clerk from 1896 until 1906 and again from 1909 until 1919 and from 1921 until 1922. This period of 24 years is the longest term of service of any clerk up to this time. He was also clerk of the presbytery. Rev. Meador served as Home Missionary Field Worker in 1896, 1903, 1905 and 1906. In 1889 Rev. Meador was one of the directors of Mt. Union Association's first Home Mission Board.
Rev. Meador pastored churches from the beginning of his ministry, some years as many as four at a time. We have records of the following churches in the Mt. Union Association: 1885-1888: Pleasant Hill, 1889: Macedonia, 1890-1893: Pleasant Hill, 1894: Hollis Chapel, New Liberty, 1895: New Liberty, Old Providence, 1896: New Liberty, 1897: New Liberty, Garret's Creek, 1899: Pleasant Hill, Carter's Chapel, Highland, 1900: Friendship, New Liberty, Highland, 1901: Pleasant Hill, Friendship, New Liberty, Highland, 1902: Pleasant Hill, Friendship, New Liberty, 1903: Pleasant Hill, 1906: Garret's Creek, 1908: Old Providence, 1909: Mitchellville, State Line, 1910: Mitchellville, 1911: Pleasant Hill, Mitchellville, Hollis Chapel, Oak Grove, 1912: Pleasant Hill, Hollis Chapel, 1913: State Line, 1914: Pleasant Grove, 1920: Old Providence. Rev. Meador moved his membership from Eulia General Baptist Church to Pleasant Hill General Baptist Church.
Rev. Meador served as clerk of the Association in 1922 and passed away on October 14, 1922.
Rev. E. C. Jones preached a memorial sermon for Rev. Meador in 1923 at the Association using the text, "Blessed are the dead which die in the Lord, for they rest from their labors, and their works do follow them".
A memorial tribute, appearing in the Associational Minutes in 1923, was written by two minister members of Pleasant Hill Church, Rev. S. B. Brockett and Rev. H. D. Jent:

Born Jerry Wayne Gregory in Pleasant Shade on May 9, 1945, he was the only child of the late Lester Herald “Slackum” Gregory who died at the age of 84 on October 8, 2002 and Annie Lee “Ann” Price Gregory who died at the age of 58 on April 22, 1975.
